“Fuck.” I yell the word out as my world crashes around me. It’s the most intense, most blissful heat that pulsates and races through and over every part of me. I’m so consumed by it that I’m lost in its haze as Lachlan shatters my bliss with his roar of a growl as he climaxes shortly after.
I’m out of breath.
Unable to think.
Can only feel.
Only want to feel.
And love that as his cock softens inside of me, he wraps his arms around my torso and hugs me against him, my name a refrain on his lips.
“That’s one,” he whispers so his warm breath heats my skin.
“Mmm.”
“Good thing you’re nice and relaxed since we need to hit those even numbers.”
I chuckle and then shift so that he slides out of me and we’re face-to-face. My fingers thread through his hair as I stare at him, my body swamped with so many sensations and my heart overwhelmed with emotions. He made this about me when he could have easily made it about him.
How did I settle for less? That’s what I’m used to.
This has just absolutely thrown me when I wasn’t sure I could be thrown anymore.
“Lachlan,” I murmur for what feels like the hundredth time in the past hour and press my lips to his.
“Hmm?” His eyes flutter open so I can see the flecks of light green in his irises.
“Thank you. This was . . .”
“Perfect.” His lips curve up. “Thank you. That’s my new favorite way to unwind.”
“No complaints here.” I run my hand over the rough stubble on his cheek, down the ridiculously strong muscles of his neck, and then to rest over his heart. “I hate that we have to do this. To hide.”
He puts his hand up and we touch our fingertips against one another’s, both of us looking at that instead of each other. “I agree. One hundred percent.”
“How much longer do you think—”
“I don’t care about the fallout for me. I care about you and the risk to all you’ve worked for. The last thing I need is for you to be demoted because you’re with me. I can’t risk that for you.”
“Let me prove myself with the gala. Then maybe I’ll talk to Paolo and explain—”
“You shouldn’t have to explain who you’re with.”
“I know. And I make no apologies for it, but I still think we need to play it safe. You don’t want Gravitas or Apex to think you’re causing problems in the garage, and I love my job.”
“The end of the season then. That’s how long we have to keep doing this.”
“The end of the season,” I repeat as I lean forward and kiss the tips of his fingers before looking back at him. “Then we get all of the above.”
His smile is shy and owns my heart. “Then we get all of the above—in public.”
“Yes. That.” I fall silent though and stare at our hands touching, our connection so strong that I know the risk is worth it. He’s worth it.
“What are you thinking, Blair?”
“Why?”
“Because you just got that little line between your eyebrows that you get when you think too hard.”
