“If I give in to you, how will you learn?” He straightened and brought me with him. One heavy arm around my waist to keep me locked to him. “You shouldn’t have lied to me just now, Lily. If you had told the truth I would have been sucking on your pussy right now, and we would both be happy.”
I made a desperate mewling sound in my throat.
“Unfortunately, that can’t happen now.” He stepped away. “You will have a driver assigned to you, to take you to and from work and wherever else you need to go. You will not go anywhere without letting him know where you are. Is that understood?”
Completely bewildered, I stared at him. “Where will you be?”
His eyes flashed angrily. “I will be away for the next few days.”
“Where?” I asked before I could stop myself.
“Do we need to have another discussion about you minding your business, Miss Ridgeway?”
Miss Ridgeway. He only called me that when I had annoyed or angered him. When he was being sweet or seductive, I was always Lily. I much preferred being called Lily.
Eyes lowered, I shook my head. “No, of course not, Mr. Popov,” I said quickly. I hope you have a great weekend.”
“Thank you.” Hands on my shoulders, he brushed his lips against my cheek. “I will see you next week.”
With that, he walked away without looking back. It was like nothing that had just happened between us meant anything.
It did mean nothing, I reminded myself. It was sex, a deal. No feelings or questions. Tears prickled in my eyes. I hated that I was feeling rejected. I was the other woman, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out where he was spending his weekend.
With his wife and son. Bitterness crawled up my spine, and I forced myself to take several deep breaths. This was for the best. Time away would help me think more clearly because right now I was cock-drunk and addicted.
One more breath, and I moved out of his office to grab my purse and go home.
Yeah, a few days without Daniil Popov was exactly what I needed. I’d be able to think more clearly then.
Chapter Thirteen
Lily
He didn’t come home at all throughout the weekend, and on Monday he didn’t show up at work, which wasn’t surprising because he didn’t usually come in every day. I knew I should have been grateful for the break, but by Tuesday, I was so racked with nerves that I had bitten my nails down and ruined my manicure.
Letting myself into his mansion, I surveyed the damage and made a mental plan to call and make an appointment. It had nothing to do with wanting to look good for Daniil, I told myself. I needed to look professional for work. That was all.
These few days away from him had made me see things more clearly, or at least, I hoped it had.
I had to stop the sexual aspect of our relationship. We were both in relationships and—
“Good evening, Miss Ridgeway.” Daniil’s voice called out.
My heart skipped a beat. Butterflies took flight in my stomach, and my pussy gave the now familiar throb at the sound of his voice.
He was home. A smile spread across my face before I could stop myself, even though I had literally just been telling myself that I wasn’t that into him.
“Will you come in here, please?” he called out. Turning my head, I saw him walking towards me, and my breath hitched in my throat. He looked like a cover model, his dark hair artfully tousled, and the stubble dotting his cheeks and chin looked designer. Even the way he had folded up his shirt sleeves made my mouth water.
My heart skipped a beat. “You’re home,” I whispered in a sigh.
A smile spread across his face. Reaching me, he pulled me into his arms and dipped me backwards. “You sound like you missed me, Miss Ridgeway.”
“I did.”
“Good.” Daniil’s lips slid over mine. One second, my body belonged to me, and the next, it was all his. It was like everything I had been feeling was a lie. My brain might be angry at him, but my body? My body was a traitor.
I could tell myself I wasn’t falling for him and that I was immune to all of his bossy charms, but it would be a lie. The kiss barely lasted five seconds, but by the time he pulled away I was breathless.
