“It’s a villa.”
“Aren’t you fancy? Does it belong to a friend or your sugar mama?” he asks.
CJ ignores the comments.
The tall woman stands by the door with the guy whose posture suggests he is, or was, in the military.
The two brothers who look a lot alike lean on the counter in various postures of ease and annoyance, respectively.
“Ooh, what are we drinking?” the pregnant woman says.
“Horchata,” I say, getting out the pitcher and offering glasses to everyone.
“I made that for us,” CJ says.
Casting him a reprimanding look, I say, “Manners. Remember, they’re guests.”
“See, I told you that your manners are lacking,” says the grouchiest of the guys.
CJ rolls his eyes. “To what do we owe this midday visit?”
“We wanted to call a meeting and you haven’t been answering your phone. Again.”
“It fell overboard.”
I frown. “It did?”
CJ shrugs like it’s no big deal...or that was a lie.
“Are you going to tell him or am I?” the grumpy guy asks.
“Tell me what?” CJ asks.
Just then, the brother who holds the baby notices me. “Well, well, well. Who do we have here?”
Before I can introduce myself, the pregnant woman, wearing a colorful sundress, gets to her feet. “We are so sorry, barging in here when you have a guest.”
CJ lifts his arm toward me and says, “She’s not a—”
But before he finishes the sentence, the pregnant lady says, “I’m Isla.” Gesturing to the tall woman, she says, “This is Lally, along with Harley and Luke, who’s the crown prince of cute.”
The guy now holding the baby says, “But soon there will be competition.”
“Isla and I are both pregnant,” Harley says.
“I’m married to Royal, the businessman. He’s mature, logical, serious, efficient, and Ryan’s twin.”
That explains it. Though Ryan is more laid back than Royal, who’s notably grumpy.
“Are you suggesting that I’m the opposite?” he asks in a tone that doesn’t help his case.
Isla continues, “Ryan is an athlete—recently retired quarterback for the Miami Riptide.”
She must register my blank expression because she says, “It’s a football team.”
“This year’s Super Bowl champs,” Ryan adds.
“He’s also a reformed flirt. We got married not long ago,” Harley says.
