Before Zenobia could even get a word out, I grabbed her by the face. The look in my eyes was enough to shut her up.

“I think you might wanna go home. And don’t even think about leaving with Zoie, she’s staying.”

We stared into each other’s eyes for several seconds before she slowly pulled away. She glanced at Ava with something like a smirk.

“Don’t get too comfortable, sweetheart.”

With that, she walked off without another word.

CHAPTER 26

Ava Gray

The past few days have been so hectic. I finally found the perfect place to call home for me and Savannah. We were only a couple weeks away until the day we moved in and I couldn’t be more excited. On top of that, I’ve been taking time to rebrand my catering business. I’ve been on Amazon adding all sorts of cooking utensils and serving equipment along with furniture for our new home. Plus, I’ve been spending time with Ethan’s mother and grandmother which has been an absolute joy. Although his mother was non verbal, we’ve actually shared a few special moments together. Compared to the first time we met, I noticed a sparkle had returned in her eyes. Even though she couldn’t…well I’m not going to say couldn’t, but wouldn’t talk. Katherine was very much aware that she was surrounded by her loved ones rather than living in a nursing facility. Her eyes wandered more rather than staring off into space.

I had just got back to Aja’s after leaving big momma’s. Ethan had a few errands to tend to but requested that I be ready, and prepared to go out for a date night. I was slightly tired, so I made sure to set my alarm on my phone so I could take a nap, and be back up at a decent time. After I took a quick shower and got comfortable in bed, my phone rang.

“Hey girl!” I answered.

“Heyy! Are you busy?” Julia asked on the other end.

“No, I just got back home. I’m about to take a little nap because Ethan and I are going out later.”

“Aww! I can’t wait for the two of you to get married.”

Her tone was too joyful.

“Girl, what’s up?” I giggled, bypassing her comment.

“Oh, yeah. I was calling because I have great news.” She said cheerfully. “I have a friend. Well, she’s more like an associate. Anyway, she has an event coming up and she said the caterer she hired recently bailed at the last minute. I mentioned your name and she wants to know if you’re available to cater her party.”

In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting Julia to be calling me about a booking. It literally made my heart smile because all it took was one opportunity for multiple doors to open at a consistent pace. Julia was the daughter of a billionaire and a multi-millionaire herself. So, whoever her friend was, I knew for sure had to be rolling in money. Julia provided all the answers to every question I had. She kept repeating herself, letting me know money wasn’t an issue. She knew what my skills were capable of and she made it clear that I should charge what I was worth. I gave her permission to give the lady my phone number so we could go over all the details for service. I was excited and prayed everything would play out right. According to Julia, she put in such a good word on my behalf there were no other options.

“Thank you so much for the referral. You don’t know how much that means to me.” I couldn’t stop smiling.

“You’re no longer just a friend, Ava. You’re literally like my sister. I love you and I've got your back, always.”

“I love you too, girl.”

Once our conversation ended, I closed my eyes to finally get some good rest.

“Look at you, bitch! You fine as hell in the lil’ Gucci dress.” Aja eyed me up and down. “You need to let me borrow that one. The shoes too.” She snapped her fingers.

“After tonight, it’s all yours,” I said while looking myself over in the mirror.

The doorbell rang, and we both walked out of the room.

“I’ll see you tomorrow because I know your fast ass ain’t coming back tonight.”

“Probably not.” I giggled while opening the door.

Ethan stood in front of me with that sexy smile on his face. I crossed my legs and then stretched my arms up to hug him around his neck. He hugged me back with one hand palming my ass, which he gave a light squeeze.

“We’re about to have some fun tonight.” He smirked.

The whole ride, we jammed to my playlist of old-school R&B. I laughed so much that my stomach hurt because he was being so goofy. It wasn’t until we pulled up to our destination that my whole demeanor changed.

“What are we doing here?” I asked as he parked in the crowded parking lot.
