“What the fuck are you doing?” I yelled. “Get off me!”
“You’re letting Ethan fuck you, but I can’t get any? I’ll raise your pay. I’m the real CEO of our company. You’re fucking the wrong boss.”
He continued to manhandle me as he roughly pulled on my clothes, ripping my shirt. When I heard the fabric tear, I used all my strength to kick him in the nuts. Doubling over, he fell to his knees, and I wasted no time getting my ass away from him. I didn’t even bother to close the door behind me as I ran out to my car and sped away on two wheels. What the hell was wrong with these people?
Back at the house, my mind was in a whirlwind. I was almost raped by a cokehead. I never fully trusted Trenton in the first place, and I damn sure wasn’t putting anything past him now. I no longer felt comfortable working for the Whitmore family. Well, I no longer felt comfortable around Trenton—it wasn’t the entire family. At that moment, I knew I wasn’t trying to go back to work. How the hell was I going to tell Julia my reason? Hell, even Ethan? I had to say something because I wasn’t about to sweep that shit under the rug or allow him to think he was getting away with putting his hands on me. I also found it weird that he tried that shit, knowing Ethan was out of town for a few days.
After picking Savannah up from my parents, I stopped to get her something to snack on since she’d already had dinner. I figured she’d lay up and watch Despicable Me or Minions on Peacock. To my surprise, my baby was out like a light, not even halfway through the movie. Already in her pajamas, I placed her in bed and closed the door behind me.
In the kitchen, I grabbed a bottle of my favorite wine. Then I went to the bathroom to sit in the tub. I felt so violated that my skin felt like it wouldn’t stop crawling. I felt nauseous.
My phone started to ring, pulling me from my thoughts.
“Hey, sis,” I answered.
“Hey, bookie. What you doing?”
“Nothing. Sitting in the tub…thinking.” I sighed as I rested my head back.
“Long day, huh?”
“Girl, you don’t even know the half. I know Ethan and Julia are gonna disagree, but I’m quitting the Whitmores. Effective immediately, bitch. I need to find another job asap.” I took a sip from my glass.
“What? As good as your pay is, you're gonna give it up? Ava, why would you do that?”
I sat silently for a few seconds.
“Uh, hello?” Aja waited for me to respond.
“The asshole I was telling you about, Trenton. I had to drop something off at his place. I didn’t notice at first, but I think he was high off coke or something. That muthafucka tried to rape me.”
“He what? Oh, hell nah! Have you called EJ?”
I knew my sister was ready to pull up and put a foot in Trenton’s ass. Hell, I wanted to fight his ass too, but I had to be smart and handle the situation differently. I just got off the hook from facing charges dealing with Rob. I wasn’t trying to get caught up and find myself in that position again.
“I haven’t talked to him yet. He should be back tomorrow evening, I think. I don’t wanna bother him while he’s away.” I stared up at the ceiling.
“This is crazy.” Aja sighed.
“Tell me about it.” I agreed.
“I just came up with a good idea, but I know you’re not—”
“You’re exactly right. I’m not about to blackmail him. Aja, I have too much shit going on already. I don’t have time for extra bullshit to be piled on my plate.”
I started to grow frustrated and slightly irritated. I knew she could hear it in my voice because she apologized before trying to change the subject.
“I can’t continue to stay here. I don’t feel safe anymore.”
“Well, pack your shit and come on over here,” she declared.
In the middle of her talking, my phone beeped, showing I had an incoming FaceTime call from Ethan. I wonder if he knew we were talking about him. Quickly, I got off the phone with my sister to click over.
“Damn, I called at the right time, huh?” His smile lit up my screen.
“I guess so.” I smiled back. “How are you?”
“Shit, I’m coolin’. I miss you.”
