When we came back inside, Ava wasn’t anywhere in sight. I walked Ace to the door while he talked shit about Ava being too comfortable in my spot. Of course, I was cool with it. I wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. Instead of walking around the house in search of her, I went straight to my room, which was exactly where she was. My eyes immediately landed on her curled up in my bed, scrolling through her phone. The moment she caught a glimpse of me standing in the doorway, she sat up with a smile.

“Is the coast clear now?”

“Yeah,” I chuckled, sitting on the edge of the bed.

“That was…a little embarrassing.” She covered her face.

“Really? Why?”

“You’re friends with my brother, let's start there.” She giggled.

“Why didn’t you tell me you had a twin?”

“I don’t know,” she shrugged. “We’re still getting to know each other. I would’ve told you eventually. And we’re not just twins, it’s actually three of us.”

“Triplets?” I raised my eyebrow.

“Yeah,” she giggled. “We have another sister. Ace is the oldest and I’m the youngest.”

“Damn, that’s what’s up. Ace a cool dude.” I nodded.

“Ace is a hot head, but I used to tear his ass up when we were younger. I bet he’ll never tell you that though.” She laughed.

She continued telling me about their upbringing. For them to be so close, I should've crossed paths with her at least once. She seemed to be in a happy head space as she talked about her family. Then, her phone rang and I noticed her body stiffened as she silenced the call.

“That’s ol boy?”

She glanced at me for a quick second before shifting her focus away.

“Yeah,”

Again, her phone rang and she quickly silenced it.

“Let me answer it.”

“No.”

There was a flicker of fear in her eyes. She even slid away from me a little bit.

“I don’t want to add anymore fuel to the fire. The night of the gala, he found the card you sent. I also forgot to take off that necklace before I went in the house. That’s why he crashed out.”

“Was that his first time crashing out?”

She sat quietly for a moment without looking at me.

“No,” she finally said.

“Have you ever mentioned that shit to Ace?”

“Hell no,” she shook her head. “I don’t like involving my family in my personal business. Rob is crazy, but we both know my brother is crazier. I don’t ever want to put Ace in a situation that would get him hurt or locked up. I'd rather deal with my bullshit behind closed doors.”

“Are you scared of him?”

“He tried to kill me, Ethan.”

Her eyes began to water. I didn’t want her to get upset, then I’d become even more pissed than I already was.

“I’m scared he’s going to try to take Savannah.” She shook her head. “That’s something I know he’d try to do only to hurt me.”
