I open my mouth to explain, wrapping my arms tightly around my torso, but he doesn’t wait.

“Get yerself in here.” Rowan points to his feet. “Right here, right now, Milo.”

Biting the inside of my cheek to keep my smile off my face, I wade in.

Note to self: wear the tank top that says “But Daddy, I Love Him” again in a less public setting. Also, pair it with a thong because that’s what those striking wolfish eyes are now glued to.

When I reach him, we’re both hip deep in the warm Baja waters. Rowan opens his arms wide, and I step into his embrace. Large wet hands slap against my butt cheeks as he pulls me flush against him.

There’s absolutely no hiding the fact that he’s turned on, or that he’s as proportionate there as he is everywhere else… or that it’s poking me in the lower abs.

Hot. I bite my lip and avert my gaze.

Rowan nudges my cheek with his nose, like he did on the roof, and asks, “Can we do that kiss again, Milo? Can I show ye what I wanted to do from the start?”

Can we kiss? Again? Standing mostly naked on the beautiful Mexican shore?

Firstly, I don’t think anyone’s ever asked first if they can kiss me before. It’s always been something that just… happened. But also, I don’t think…

He throws his head back and howls up at the night sky, and I strike.

Just like last time, his lips are soft and warm. But unlike last time, when Rowan pulls me closer, he brushes the tip of his tongue against mine and every nerve in my body responds.

I press my body closer still, even though there’s no space, and his already hard cock throbs as it rolls over my bare skin. My arms loop around his neck, my fingers push through his thick hair, and one of his hands slides up my spine to settle into a protective position between my shoulder blades.

“Forever?” he whispers into my mouth.

Moaning, I nod, and deepen our kiss. His short beard scrapes over my chin and cheeks in the most delicious way, and I breathe his unique spiced scent as deep inside my body as it will go.

From somewhere over my shoulder, Señora Tiempo’s musical voice calls out loud and clear, “Champagne for everyone, in honour of the new couple. Long may they live!”

“And you’re done hiding? You promise?” Milo asks, pointlessly tucking his hair behind his ears, only for the strong wind to blast it out again.

“Primo, I…” Señora Tiempo spits out an ostrich feather that’s blown into her mouth where we stand back on the roof of the Colonial National Bank. “I gave you my word.”

With a long sigh, she clicks her fingers, and her whole image changes. Gone is the timeless elegance of sequins and feathers in shades of gold and pink rose, and in their place is a bold pinstripe suit with ivory leather Oxfords. A slicked-back hairstyle replaces delicate finger curls, and the word Señora no longer seems appropriate.

“I’ve returned you to the exact moment I took you from.” Time hooks his finger in the sleeve of his suit to check a very nice looking watch. “In fact, we’re a few minutes early. And then, as promised, I’m returning to the Office of Time. My first meeting with Anna is in precisely seven minutes. Long enough to have a coffee and a cigarette—if I leave now.”

I nod, and tuck Magpie in closer along my side. His fingers sneak up the back of my T-shirt and twist tight hold of the fabric, which reminds me that he refused to wear my bulletproof vest before we left the Mexican resort.

His intuition is to trust the god of Time, despite that their absence led to all this, and mine is to trust my wolf. Milo’s my unclaimed mate, and my unease about being back in the exact spot he almost died in is visceral.

“Will we see each other again?” Milo ventures hesitantly.

“Milo, darling, you couldn’t stop me. I’m in short supply of friends who’ll tell me the truth—even when I don’t want to hear it.” Time checks their watch again. “But I really do need that cigarette. Anna can be… Hasta luego.”

With a soft kiss to the air, the god of Time vanishes, and Milo’s weight against my side increases.

“Ye okay, Pup?”

“Mhm, ’m tired. Today feels like it lasted for a year.” Milo’s head flops onto my chest, and I wrap both arms around him.
