“Now, where do I find the prize I so aptly thanked you for?” I asked, climbing to my feet.

Quickly, I dipped a washcloth in the tub and cleaned myself up before heading back to the bedroom to find lazy-day clothes.

“In the kitchen, of course,” Ghost called after me as I heard the shower turn on.

Chapter fourteen

Harper

Dressed and ready to lounge with my McDonald’s, I slid into the kitchen Risky Business style. On the counter were two strange-looking boxes, with nothing else out in the open. I guessed this was what Ghost brought my food back in. Hoisting myself up onto the counter, kicking my feet excitedly, I popped off the lid and peered inside.

White smoke billowed out, making me cough at how cold it was. Once the smoke cleared, there, packed in dry ice, was the glorious sight of a large cup filled with the nectar of the gods. Plucking it out as carefully as I could, avoiding the brick of ice, I set it down so I could stab the straw into it. The burn of the soda as it hit my mouth told me that it was the real deal—carbonation so intense you could feel the bubbles sliding down your throat. A sigh of contentment slipped out as I sagged, cradling the cup to my chest.

“You look like Gollum with this precious ring right now,” Jaxson shared with a snicker.

Glaring at him, I hid the cup by my side as I stuck my tongue out at him. “You don’t appreciate the gift that is a Coke from McDonald’s.”

“If I could have a sip, I might learn to appreciate it more,” he challenged.

Hissing at him, I hunched over and tried to do my best impression of the creepy creature. “My precious!”

Laughing, he tossed up his hands in mock defeat. “I won’t steal it from you. If I did, I’m pretty sure Ghost would chop off my dick, and I quite like that part of my anatomy.”

Now I was the one who couldn’t hold back the snicker at the look of actual concern on Jaxson’s face.

“Laugh it up, Harpster, but I’m fairly positive you enjoyed it quite a lot yourself,” he shot back. “Open the other one before it gets too cold and you blame me for it happening.”

Shoving the now-empty box to the side, I pulled the second one to me, knocking off the lid. This container was filled with what looked like tons of hand warmers. Unearthing the brown bag, I pulled it free, opening it to find two sandwiches. The first one was labeled as a normal McChicken, and the second was the spicy version.

“God, just when I didn’t think he could be any more wonderful, he got me both,” I praised, unwrapping the spicy one first.

The sandwich was warmer than if it had just been made and not at all soggy. Taking the first bite, I moaned at the subtle spice paired with the creamy mayo and fresh lettuce. Many people in my life have told me my obsession with these sandwiches was ridiculous, but I didn’t care. Everyone has their guilty pleasure, and this was mine.

“Fuck me,” Ghost blurted as he arrived in the kitchen, still drying off his hair with a towel.

“Mm-hmm,” Jaxson answered. “Never in my life did I think I could be jealous of a fast-food chicken sandwich.”

“Clearly, I need to work on my cooking skills. I’ve never seen her react like that for the food I make,” Magnus commented as he came to lean against the counter across from me. “You seem to be feeling better.”

“Who wouldn’t be after getting your hair washed, soaking in an amazing bath, a good quick fuck, and the magic of Micky D’s. That kind of combination should cure cancer or something with how amazing it is,” I said before taking another gulp of soda.

Magnus snorted and grinned. “Are you going to stay up there, or would you like to move to the living room and watch a movie?”

“Wait, you have a TV here?” I demanded, looking around the place, wondering how I could have missed it.

Jaxson came up to me, resting his hands on my thighs. “Oh, we have something better than a plain old TV. The three of us don’t skimp when it comes to technology. We have a 4K projector with a kickass sound system built into the walls and ceiling for the ultimate experience.”

Frowning, I looked over at the simple living room with the cream-colored overstuffed sofa. “You have that all here?”

“Oh ye of little faith,” Ghost chided, walking into the living room and dropping the wooden screen darkening the space.

Shrugging, I hopped off the counter, collected my food, and picked my spot in the middle of the couch. Magnus pointed a remote to the ceiling, where a screen the width of the wall started to descend. Jaxson plopped down next to me, kicking his feet up on the ottoman, and showed me a tablet. “Pick whatever movie you want.”

Setting down my Coke, I scrolled through the never-ending list of movies. Never in my life had I seen a list so long before. “This is like every movie ever made in the history of movies.”

“So you better not tell us you can’t find anything you wanna watch,” Ghost pointed out as he joined us on the couch.

Then I spotted it, the perfect movie, one that Dax would hardly ever watch with me because she wasn’t a fan of Tom Cruz. “This one!”
