Donovan and Angelo moved so fast that Charles barely had time to react. He tried to stand, but Angelo held him down. When he tried to pull the duct tape off, the two men worked in tandem to tape his arms to the chair.
I looked at Rafael, surprised. Where the hell was Donovan carrying that much duct tape?
Rafael shrugged, smiling. He always enjoyed a good show.
“Do I have your attention now?” Charles shook in his chair, unsuccessfully trying to break free. He tried to yell, but the noise came out muffled. “Good. Let’s get some things clear. Keep fucking with Serena, and I’ll put a bullet through your eyes.” I raised the gun, aiming it at his head. “This pathetic custody shit? It’s done. If you decide to continue, I will tear apart everything you care about. You’ll have nothing left when I’m through with you, if I don’t decide to put you six feet under and put us all out of our misery.”
I love how enraged Charles got the more I talked, yet he didn’t move a muscle.
I lifted my nose, making a dramatic show of sniffing the air. “You smell that, Raf?”
Rafael mimicked my actions. “Yeah. Smells like fear.” He looked at Charles, amused. “You piss yourself? I almost didn’t believe my brother when he told me what a waste of space you were.” He shook his head. “Looking at you now, he was being nice.”
I placed my elbow on the arm of the chair and rested my chin in my hand.
“You fucked up the best thing in your life.” I stood and put the gun in my waistband.
I headed to the door, Rafael walking beside me. Donovan and Angelo opened the double doors for us, and we left the Lexington Club with Charles’ muffled curses following us out.
CHAPTER 28
Serena
When Enzo said he’d look into things with Charles, I thought it would take a week, maybe two.
Not the next day.
“It’s okay,” Enzo said as we got on the elevator.
He’d found out through his network that Charles was meeting with his lawyers today. One specialized in family law, and when Enzo showed me the picture, I recognized him from my first meeting.
“If you say so.” I was so nervous. We were dropping in uninvited to a meeting Charles was having with his lawyers, armed with a list of every violation he’d made against our divorce decree and custody agreement.
“I do” Enzo said.
The elevator doors opened. Enzo grabbed my hand and pulled me out.
He flashed what I liked to think of as his polite smile at the secretary. Tight, no teeth, and nowhere near his eyes.
Nothing, I noted, like the ones he gave me. I was surprised how different it was.
She stood, and Enzo shook his head. “We know where we’re going.
We breezed past her and went down a hallway.
My heart tried to escape my chest as we came to a glass conference room with a frosted strip across the middle, making it hard to see inside.
Enzo opened the door, gesturing for me to enter first.
Let’s get this over with. I rolled my shoulders back and walked in with my head held high.
Charles stood in the corner with Apple, holding hands. Two men sat at the table, pulling papers from their briefcases and opening their laptops. There was a big whiteboard with a black line down the center. One side said Harper, the other Trust fund.
“Great, everyone is here,” Enzo said, walking into the room as if he owned it.
Charles turned, stunned. I wish I could’ve taken a picture. I would have it framed and hung in my studio as a reminder of how much joy I felt in this moment.
“You need to leave,” Apple said, disgust etched on her face. If it could move, I imagined there would be a wrinkle in her nose like she smelled something rotten.
