I reach across the table and pick up the drive. I turn the small device around in my fingers. This could have a lot of the answers I’m looking for. Even if we don’t recognize anyone, Matt can run it through facial recognition. I’ll have to get it to him right away.

“How much longer do you think you can stay there? If we don’t find what we need in these pictures, I’ll need you to take more pictures of the rest of the members.”

“I’d prefer to get out in two weeks.” His voice is firm even though he poses it as a suggestion. “The longer I stay, the more they’ll have me do unethical things.”

I quirk an eyebrow. “More?”

His dark eyes harden. “How else do you think I gained their trust?”

My gut twists. What did this man have to do in order to do my bidding? “No matter what, even if we don’t find what or who I’m looking for, I’ll pull you out in two weeks.”

The man nods once. “Thank you, sir.”

Chapter 33

Victor

Istand from my chair in the marketing team meeting, satisfied with their proposal. I’m impressed I was able to concentrate on their presentation at all considering Serenity is at her first day of volunteering at the clinic. I’ve itched to check my phone to find out how her day is going. I could’ve messaged her first, but something has been holding me back.

I shake my head. My focus is needed here. The XT phone needs a perfect launch.

Now all I need is for Mr. Lexington to like the plans as I know the rest of the board will be fine with what we come up with. They always trust my judgment.

My employees file out of the meeting room, and when I go to follow, Mr. Choi stops me. “I need to talk to you in private.”

I hang back, and once everyone is gone, he closes the door.

When he turns back to me, he says, “Mr. Lexington has been breathing down our necks about our campaign. We can’t get much done when he’s hounding us.”

I try to suppress my surprise, but my eyes widen a fraction, and Mr. Choi notices it immediately.

“You didn’t know.” It was a statement, not a question. “What about Miss Tellum?”

I grind my molars. “They have both been on me about the launch for the XT, but I didn’t think they would bother you and your team.” I shake my head. “I’ll talk to them about giving you space.”

Mr. Choi sticks his hand out, and I shake it. “I appreciate your help, Mr. Barlowe.”

He’s about to walk away, but I ask, “Do you feel confident you’ll have everything ready before the launch?”

“Absolutely.” He gives me a look. “As long as they don’t keep interrupting.”

With that, we exit. He heads off in the opposite direction, and I start back toward my office. Only three more meetings and I get to go home to my family. Unable to resist any longer, I pull out my phone. A text notification from twenty minutes ago grabs my attention.

Serenity

I just got back home. I am POOPED.

I grin.

As in you’re tired or did someone poop on you?

Serenity

Hardy har har. Do you have kinks I don’t know about?

My smile grows so large my mouth hurts.

As I’m about to type out a response, I glance up, and stop when the familiar platinum blonde walks in front of me. I should’ve paid more attention to my surroundings, so I could’ve avoided her.
