“You good, Mia? I heard about what happened.”

“I’m getting there.”

“When you’re there, I know you’re gonna fuck some shit up.” She shook her head. “Niggas really think they can take a bad bitch down. Send that muthafucka straight to hell.”

“Oh, I plan to.”

She handed me a shot, and I took it back. I hadn’t had liquor in a while, so the shit burned a little going down.

“Y’all been here for a while?” I asked, crossing my legs.

“About an hour or so. Lacey decided to drag me out of my house.”

Lacey kissed her teeth. “I told you, all work and no play makes you an angry girl,” she sang. “You have to loosen up, Roux.”

“I am loose. You don’t see how relaxed I am? Everybody ain’t the life of the party like you, baby.”

Lacey stood back up and swung her hair over her shoulders before going back to shaking her ass. She reminded me so much of Shar. My brothers forbid their wives to get friendly with Roux because she would try to turn them into lunatics just like her. It wasn’t like she wanted friends, anyway. We just had mutual respect for each other.

“So, I heard you married, DeLuca,” Roux said, taking another shot.

“I did.”

She smirked. “Your brothers took that okay? I know how they can be overbearing and shit. I’m sure they tried to intimidate that nigga.”

I laughed. “My husband isn’t the least bit intimidated by anybody. If anything, he gives that shit right back. They seem cool with him, especially now. Can’t say the same for when they first met him, but they treat him like family.”

“I guess that’s good. How is my old boo? I see him around town with all them damn kids. Tell him to get off that damn girl.”

I shook my head. “He’s crazy about her.”

“Oh, I know. The man had me playing target practice with her baby daddy. I’m still mad I didn’t get to shoot that little fuck.”

She said that with so much venom in her voice. Who gets mad they can’t shoot somebody? Roux Nelson did.

“I’m sure you’ve shot enough people to make up for it.”

An evil grin spread across her face. “I did. Went back and took out his mama.”

“Girl, what?”

“She gave birth to a trash ass nigga and I didn’t want her getting any ideas about retaliating on her son or baby daddy’s behalf. No loose ends. Besides, it just looks like she up and moved away without warning. I fed that bitch to the gators in the lake behind my house.”

I shook my head. “You are insane.”

She shrugged. “I’ve been told that a time or two.”

I motioned the server over and ordered a bottle for the table. No sooner than she was gone did a man come over, making eyes at Roux. I mean, he was grinning and rubbing his hands together like she was a meal he was about to sink his teeth in. I had to give it to him, he was handsome and bold for coming over here, not knowing he was in danger.

“Damn, baby,” he said licking his lips. “You fine as a muthafucka.”

Roux rolled her eyes. “I know.”

“Cocky too? I like that shit.”

“Like it somewhere else.” She waved him off. “Move around.”

Her security stepped in the section, pushing him back.
