She climbed between my legs and rested her back against my front. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her temple. For a moment we sat there, looking out at the water and just appreciating nature. Years ago, we couldn’t have sat in silence. It always had to be filled with something, mainly fucking or chaos. These days, I welcomed that shit because it was usually accompanied with me just holding my wife and loving on her.

I used to shake my head watching Q or the fellas just being overly affectionate with their women. Always touching them or kissing on them and shit. I might have been on some hating as shit because I low key wished Mia and I could be like that all the time. The toxic fighting shit was exhausting. I was a hard ass nigga and I loved a strong woman, but damn! Can we have peace too?

I couldn’t lie. I loved the cutesy shit.

I loved hearing her refer to me as baby, her man, or husband versus her calling me out my name. I loved the moments where she was just laid up on my chest with me rubbing on her booty or kissing me for no reason. I loved when she sat on my lap in a room full of people and I got to love on her or whisper nasty shit in her ear.

I loved it all.

Years ago, I wouldn’t have asked for it, but these days I was vocal about what I needed, and so was she. It really made all the difference in the world.

“We have to do this more often,” Mia finally said.

“We do. I can hear the family talking shit already about why they ain’t invited.”

She giggled. “We should do a group trip once year.”

“You want somebody to go to jail in another country? Cause that’s what’s gonna happen when we all get together. The niggas like to fight and I know a few of the women are gonna jump in, for example, you, Shar, Renay, and Dinah.”

She gasped as she looked up at me. “Don’t do me and my girls.”

“One band, one sound. As a matter of fact, the only person I don’t see jumping in is Romi’s little ass.”

“You saying my sister is weak?”

“No, she’s the peaceful one. Salima is gon jump if Shar is fighting and Jaeda ain’t letting her girls fight alone.”

She rolled her eyes. “Whatever. We can all behave.”

“You just threatened a woman less than an hour ago.”

“It was valid. Bitch talking about I can join. Even if I was on my Kaylynn shit, she wouldn’t be my type of woman.”

I chuckled. “Humor me. What kind of woman would you like?”

“One that looks like you would call her Miss Nigga.”

I laughed out loud. “So you’d want a stud?”

“Knowing myself, couldn’t do another pretty girl. We’d fight cause don’t touch my clothes, my shoes, or any of my other shit, talking about we can share.”

“You wear my clothes, Mia.”

“And? You can’t wear mine. Balance.”

I shook my head as I held her tighter. “What am I gonna do with you?”

“I’m sure you’ll think of something.”

She looked up at me with a smile. Cupping the side of my face, she pulled my head to hers and kissed my lips. It started slow and sensual before migrating into something deeply passionate.

Then it was over because Bleu started digging wildly, kicking dirt all on the blanket and us. The more we yelled at her to stop, the harder she dug. Mia sprang to her feet to stop her, but Bleu took off down the beach, thinking it was a game.

Mia huffed as she ran after her. All I could do was laugh to myself.

My girls.

One day, there would be a kid in the mix of this little madness and they would be the one being chased down the beach. I smiled to myself. I liked the thought of that.
