“St Clair, Brooke speaking,” I say, slightly breathlessly.
“Hi, Brooke, it’s Mickey from the PR Team. Do you have the latest scheduling plan for the Spring collection photo shoots?”
“Hi, Mickey. I do. I’ve just got back to my desk,” I say, resting the phone receiver between my shoulder and my ear. “I can email it down to you.”
“Perfect, I knew you would. I seem to have misplaced it.”
“Not a problem,” I say.
Mickey is one of the team who has made me feel the most welcome.
“You’re a star.”
“Give me five minutes,” I say, hanging up and scribbling myself a note.
Grabbing Alex’s suit, I knock on his door.
“Come in.” His deep voice penetrates my chest and settles low in my stomach.
“Your suit,” I say, opening the door and stepping into the room.
“Hang it up over there.”
He waves a hand in the general direction of his personal bathroom and changing area, not bothering to look up from whatever he’s working on.
I don’t wait. Instead, I do as I’m told. My nerves are already stretched.
“Everything okay?” he asks, his question stopping me in my tracks.
I close my eyes for a second before turning and plastering a smile on my face.
“All good. There was a film crew outside doing a documentary on American fashion houses.”
The words spill out of me before I can stop them.
“There are often people outside. News crews during fashion weeks, documentary makers. Just ignore them. You’re not to discuss anything with anyone. HR should have explained that to you. They should have got you to sign an NDA.”
My hackles rise at the same time my stomach sinks.
Why the hell didn’t Sophia warn me? Film crews?
Maybe she thought she didn’t need to. I’m supposed to be staying inside, out of sight and taking cabs everywhere.
“I wouldn’t discuss anything, and I did sign an NDA,” I say, trying not to snap.
I’m not a complete idiot!
“Good.” He stares at me. “Have you completed the changes for this afternoon’s presentation?”
“I was just finishing them when you asked me to collect your suit. I should have them finalised within the next half an hour.”
“Send them through as soon as they’re done. We’ll need to leave in an hour.”
I’m not sure how many pairs of hands he thinks I have. But I leave quietly and return to my desk. I send Mickey the scheduling plan before completing the updates Mr High-and-Bloody-Mighty requested.
