My cock begins to soften.

“Shit,” I say, shifting her slightly and withdrawing from her body, grabbing the end of the condom and tying a knot in it before it slips off. I drop it onto the floor before pulling her back into my arms. It’s then I realise she’s already fallen asleep.

I gaze down at the woman sleeping in my arms. This woman has appeared in my life, may or may not be my mother’s spy and has somehow managed to befriend my little sister, which is not an easy feat. She has most of the office in love with her, not romantically, but certainly in awe of her. And now she has me. I’m behaving like some lovesick teenager, not a nearly forty-year-old divorcé who runs one of the world’s leading fashion houses.

I pull her close, loving the way she tightens her hold, even in her sleep. I close my eyes. There’ll be plenty of time to talk later.

CHAPTER 56

HARPER

Iwake with a start.

Arms tighten around me, soothing, comforting.

“Hey,” a voice says close to my ear.

My muscles relax.

Alessandro.

His voice soothes me, and I sink back against the warmth of his skin with a soft hum. Memories of the previous evening come flooding back. I remember the things this man did to my body, how I rode his cock until we were both screaming. I didn’t think it would be possible for us to pick up from the weekend before he left; I thought it would be awkward, stilted… how wrong can one woman be?

I burrow my head into his chest. His body vibrates as he chuckles beneath me.

“Don’t laugh,” I say.

“I’m not. It’s endearing. I can hear your brain whirring from here.”

I shift slightly until I can look up into his face. His eyes are twinkling, and he looks more relaxed than I’ve ever seen him. I suppose that’s what orgasms do to a man. Apparently, they have the same effect on me, because I fell into a deep sleep straight afterwards.

He runs a hand over my hair, and I tilt my head, dropping a kiss onto his bare chest.

“If you do that, we won’t be talking. You said yesterday you wanted to talk,” he says with a groan.

I smile against the muscles beneath my lips. I did, but after last night, everything in my world is calmer.

“Talk is overrated,” I say, looking up, not wanting to think about the lies I’ve told him or why I’m really here.

Dan and Mitch say the team are struggling to gather information from the party and track down old, deleted accounts. Seven years on, people don’t want reminders of their misspent youth, so they’ve either set up new accounts or deleted past posts. The hunt continues.

“And we’ve done lots of talking, albeit over the telephone, for the past three weeks,” I add.

He quirks a brow, his arms wrapping around me. “Maybe, but we need to talk about us,” he says, breaking the silence with a kiss on the tip of my nose. “Especially after last night.”

I sigh. This man is addictive, but I know he’s right. It’s not as if he’s just anyone. He’s my boss, the CEO of an international company.

It’s just hard to stop, especially when everything this man knows about me is a lie. Even the little truths are semi-lies. But there’s nothing I can do about that now, or the fact that it’s not my name he calls when he comes hard inside me.

My chest constricts sharply.

Suck it up, buttercup! You’ve made your bed.

I have two options. I can enjoy this man and everything he offers until our time is up, however long that is. Or I can make an excuse and walk away. His arms tighten around me, as if sensing where my thoughts are going, and I’m not sure how easy that option would be. I hook a leg over his thigh.

“Talk,” I say, as he groans.

“You play dirty for someone new to this,” he says, his cock twitching and hardening between us.
