I know what she's asking.
Closing my eyes, I fight like hell not to kiss her. In the end, I'll have to choose between her and the club—between her and my brother. "You Piper, so much it scares the fuck out of me. Yet, here I am, wanting you anyway."
The sound of a vehicle approaching pulls us apart. Looking past her shoulder, I watch as Wick's truck comes into view. He rolls the vehicle to a stop in front of the barn. Wick and Sean step out of the truck and make their way toward me.
"Sean," I extend my hand, gripping his. "Good to see ya again, mate."
"You too, man." He walks over to his bike and whistles. "Damn. It looks great." Sean admires my work.
"Hey, brother," Wick greets me, then looks at Piper. "Hey there, sweetheart." His big arms incase her, kissing the top of her head. "How'd the visit with your mom go?"
"Better than I hoped," Piper tells him.
"That's good to hear," Wick says. "Listen," he faces me. "Sean plans on riding his bike out of here, so I'm gonna head back to the bar before the delivery guy arrives. They were three cases short last time, and I want to make sure some of our merchandise hasn't fallen off the truck if ya get what I mean."
I nod. "No worries, mate. You run into any problems, give me a call," I tell Wick as he heads for his truck.
"Hey, Uncle Malik, wait up," Piper calls out. "Can I catch a ride back with you?" Piper looks back at me. It feels like she's running away, and I have a sudden urge to grab her, kiss her hard, and tell her to stay. Wick watches on, his truck door hanging open as he waits to see what Piper wants to do. Piper gives me a small smile before jogging toward my brother's truck and climbing into the passenger seat.
I watch them drive away. "It's for the best," I mumble to myself. I need to stop this shit before it goes too far. I need to make myself not fall for my brother's daughter. I should prevent myself from falling for a woman I shouldn't want and can't have.
The truth is, Piper is under my skin.
Every thought I have of her is a battle—a war I struggle to win with myself. Sometimes it takes a good fall to know where you stand in life. Piper undeniably will be my downfall.
