I stripped off. I didn’t even need to see the ring, because I knew Zach.

Chapter 28

Zach

In olden days, the woman was transferred from her father’s household to her husband’s. Now Luke couldn’t buy her brand-new cars anymore. By the promise of marriage, she was as good as mine.

While Amber removed her clothes, I pulled off my T-shirt and picked up the engagement ring. It more than rivalled her mum’s solitaire set. Mine was an emerald cut, flanked by two triangular diamonds on either side.

Her clothes lay strewn across the floor in a haphazard trail. She was like a live wire, eyes bright, fixed on the box in my hand. She’d left her knickers on, but she knew how much I loved peeling those off myself.

I stepped closer to those lush breasts and the perfect nipples I loved sucking on, then dropped to one knee and held the box up.

“Amber Rayne, will you marry me?” I asked, opening the box.

Her eyes widened, and she gasped.

“Oh my god. That’s too big.”

“A terrible burden that I must live with,” I said, lowering my head and placing a hand over my heart.

“If I accept, then that’s my burden too,” she said, arching an eyebrow.

“You know we’re a perfect fit.”

“Hm,” she said, but lifted the ring from the box and slid it onto her finger anyway.

I tossed the box over my shoulder and lunged up to tackle her onto the bed.

Her laughter rang out as we landed among the rose petals, the ones I’d snuck in earlier before mutilating them into something resembling romantic. But staring down at her now, petals scattered around her hair like a halo, I decided it had been worth the effort.

“You accepted my proposal. Do you know what that means?” I asked, brushing curls away from her forehead and cheek.

“That we’ll get married at some point? Preferably after uni,” she said, raising her hand to inspect the ring. “I love it.”

“Of course you do. I chose it for you,” I murmured, kissing her.

Her soft sigh as she parted her lips for me was everything. I’d never felt this connected to anyone in my life. She was sweet, funny, honest, loyal. Her very existence made me want to be a better man. For Amber. For my dad.

After a final soft kiss against her swollen lips, I pulled back.

“This means you’re all mine,” I said, smirking.

“Sure,” she said, with a smirk of her own.

Had I miscalculated somewhere?

Before I could consider the possibilities, her hands were already roving over my body, pulling me back down for another kiss. The scent of her coconut shampoo and jasmine body wash had become a second home for me. Whenever she switched brands, it disrupted my whole equilibrium.

Sometimes, I think she does it just to fuck with me.

But then she loves it when I fuck her right back.

Amber fucking Rayne.

I trailed kisses down her jaw, her neck, her collarbone, until I reached her breasts—the perfect feast for a starving man. I pressed them together, showering them with kisses, until she arched her spine and offered herself to me fully. My dirty girl was forever impatient.

I glanced up as my mouth closed around her nipple. Her eyes closed as she exhaled, lips parting. I circled my tongue around the peak before sucking hard enough that she flung her hips off the bed, only for them to land against my abdomen.
