Jimmy laughed and shook his head as he looked at his unusual brother. “He knows too much.”
“Yes Lord,” said Trina.
“Did anybody call Dommi?” Jimmy asked.
“I called him just after I called you,” Trina said. “He’s on his way.”
“What about Daddy?” Sophia asked.
“I texted him five times already,” Trina said, “and I called him more times than that. But he never answered.”
“Where is he?” Sophia asked.
“Damn if I know. I called the PaLargio and nobody’s seen him since he left for lunch. But wait till I get my hands on his ass.”
Jimmy’s heart dropped. He knew he should tell Trina every time he caught his father in compromising situations, but he never did. As he and his father grew closer down through the years, loyalty to his old man trumped everything with Jimmy. He loved Trina, and they were especially close. But Reno was his Dad. He couldn’t go against his Pops.
“You heard from him, Jimmy?” Trina asked him.
“Who me? Sure haven’t. I’m just glad Soph and Carmine’s okay.”
“Yeah. Me too,” Trina said. But she knew he knew more than he was telling. When it came to Reno, Jimmy always knew more.
CHAPTER NINE
Trina drove her Mercedes and Jimmy drove his Maserati into their private garage at the PaLargio Hotel and Casino on the Vegas Strip. It was no surprise to Trina when both Sophia and Carmine preferred to ride with Jimmy from the hospital. In fact, it was comforting. Jimmy wasn’t their half big brother. Jimmy was their big brother period. And they loved him as much as they loved each other.
But when they all made it upstairs to the penthouse and saw their other brother, Dominic Gabrini, Junior, all three siblings ran to him.
“Dommi’s here!” Sophia said happily as they all rushed to hug their brother.
Dommi nearly fell down they hugged him so hard. And they all were laughing.
“When Ma called me I thought y’all were going to be in the hospital for days with broken bones scratched-up faces. But not a scratch on neither one of you.”
“God is good,” Trina said. “They had to run a lot of tests on Carmine especially, but everything checked out.”
“That’s good news,” Dommi said.
“It’s good to see you again, Dominic,” Carmine said.
“Oh yeah? When I used to live here y’all couldn’t stand me. Now that I live all the way in Mississippi, it’s good to see me.”
“That’s how it goes,” Jimmy said. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
“Actually,” Carmine said, “it only grows fonder if said heart was fond of the person to begin with.”
“Whatever boy,” Jimmy said with a grin.
Dommi ruffled Carmine’s curly hair. “You’ll never change,” he said.
“Actually, there’s an eighty-eight percent chance that you won’t either,” Carmine shot back. “There are variables, of course, but that’s the going rate.”
Dom and Jimmy looked at each other. “That’s your brother,” Dom said to Jimmy.
“No, that’s your brother,” Jimmy said to Dom, and they both laughed.
“Sit down,” Trina said to Dom. “You’ve been driving all night to get here. I know you’re tired.”
