Keaton tilted his head, “My dad was upset?” I nodded, “Oh yeah. Your mom was calming him down. I’m pretty sure she was back to being upset the second he calmer He looked ready to rip someone to pieces though.” Keaton laughed, “That sounds like my family.”

Keaton pulled me closer to him then leaned down slowly. My lips parted, waiting for his. The song gloatingly began again. I internally whispered, “Cool it.” It did not work. If anything, the song got smugger and louder.

Keaton gently licked my lip then slid his tongue into my mouth. If there was an award for best kisser, Keaton Daniels would win hands down. His hand was sliding up again towards my boob when he growled and pulled back.

This man could not have looked more annoyed if he tried. It was as if he was talking to someone, but no one else was here. Keaton sighed, “I have to go. I’ll see you later, Katie.” It hurt my heart again. I whispered, “Odette.” His head snapped to mine.

I told him, “My real name is Odette.” He tucked my hair behind my ear, “A beautiful name, for a beautiful girl.” Keaton gently nipped my ear and whispered, “My girl. Goodbye, Odette.” The song in my head practically started shouting.

At least both of us liked him using our real name. My heart was beating so fast hearing him call me his girl. I never had anything like this with Luke. My ex never made me feel this way. Or even a fraction of this, really. Keaton walked to the door with my hand in his. He didn’t seem to want to leave any more than I wanted him to. Keaton kissed me again then pulled back, closing his eyes.

Keaton instructed, “Lock the door behind me.” I whispered, “Ok.” He kissed my forehead, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Odette. Would you like a ride to school?” I nodded then Keaton kissed my forehead again, “I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

I whispered, “Bye Key.” I closed the door behind him and slid down the door. “Well, you and me little annoying song, we are in trouble with that boy.” I stood up after several minutes and went back to my computer in the guest room.

I sighed and sat down. I needed to see if any other Lux’s emailed me back. I had to find my Lux before Mr. Vennox did. I needed to warn him he might be in danger because I was looking for him. I should probably read Mr. Vennox’s emails too.

He did mention the song thing so maybe he knows what that is. He could know how to stop it. I didn’t have to see him to ask that. Right? He couldn't have anyone lock me up if he couldn’t find me. Mr. Vennox was probably mad considering I did duck out on them. I took a deep breath and fired up my laptop. Time to face the music.

Keaton eyed Katie in the parking lot. I growled the second I saw my mate’s outfit. Her shapely figure was on full display. Channing growled, “If you don’t kiss mate, I will constantly whine in your head.” I rolled my eyes retorting to my wolf, “I’ll kiss her, just give me a minute. Damn, Channing!”

Channing huffed, “You take her in your arms, and you kiss her. This is not complicated. Humans. You all make things so hard.” I sighed at my wolf knowing we had to take this just a touch slower than kissing Katie here and now.

Bryce pulled up. Keith linked me, “Ohh Katie changed her outfit. May linked me saying that means your mate does in fact like you too. I would question how a wardrobe change means she likes you, but women. What can you do?”

I snorted, “Of course Katie likes me, we are mates.” Keith winked at me replying, “I’m really happy for you, little brother. The whole family would be and….” I cut him off, “No.” Keith sighed but I could tell he understood my reasoning.

I couldn’t stop myself from growling when Bryce touched my mate. God, this was going to be a long year of being unable to mark her. Channing protested, “Not necessarily. Mate recognizes us as her mate though.” I reminded him, “She’s sixteen.” Channing grumbled, “She’s ours.” There we agreed.

I felt a magnetic pull to Katie. I couldn’t stop myself from pulling her into my arms. Channing demanded, “KISS HER!” I retorted, “I’m working on it.” Channing grumbled, “You’re slow.” I teased, “You’re very grouchy.” My wolf retorted, “Kiss mate and I’ll be happy.” Jesus.

Channing needed to find some chill. I sniffed the nape of my mate’s neck and felt my canines extend; I didn’t let them touch her though. Katie jumped back from me cause Channing whimpered and my canines went back to normal.

My mate started talking about my girlfriend. Channing snarled while I cursed my ex in my head. Damn it, Lisa! I relaxed when I realized Katie didn’t think I was with her still. I quickly explained. That had my mate talking about wanting a New Year’s kiss. She’d be my New Year’s kiss for the rest of our lives.

I couldn’t handle Katie talking about leaving. I’d have to tell my parents who she was to me. I couldn’t be without her. My mate’s mother wasn’t even protecting her! I’d give that bitch money to let Katie go if that’s what it took. That woman could have every dime I had, but I’d keep Katie with me.

I couldn’t help but laugh when my mate told me her mom’s boyfriend bought her a car that she couldn’t drive. That was nice of him. It pissed me off that her mom couldn’t be bothered to at least get Katie lessons. Luckily, it worked to my advantage so I’d let it go.

I helped her into my truck awestruck because she looked stunning. I’d never let anyone drive my truck. Not even Lisa and my ex had even begged. Hell, she cried once and I still refused. Not my truck. Katie though was a whole other story though it just felt right.

I jumped in the truck and looked over. My breath caught as my mate quickly adjusted her skirt. I forced myself and Channing to remain calm. We were giving a driving lesson, damn it. I managed to make myself get through the lesson with a raging hard on.

I’d never wanted someone so badly in my entire life. I focused on driving. Katie did pretty well. She couldn’t park worth a damn, but that was fine. I was stunned when she said I looked my dad. How could she know that? Channing hummed, “Mate is correct though.” I knew that.

Apparently, our family talk had been in view of my mate’s class. I linked, “Channing, where were you with that information?” My wolf snorted, “I can’t tell when her eyes are on us, Keaton. I can smell her, but she was inside. The windows weren’t open. What do you want from me?! You don’t give me what I want anyway, so I don’t feel super generous right now.”

I wanted to laugh at how tightly Channing was wound up. My wolf growled, “Kiss mate and I’ll be nicer.” I told him, “Patience, little wolf.” Channing grumbled, “I’m not little.” That’s true. We were a large Alpha wolf.

We talked about what this parking lot used to be. I linked Clara, “Can you order a meat lover's pizza to Katie’s apartment? Immy knows her address.” Clara replied, “Of course.” When Katie talked about not being able to roller skate as a child, I was angry.

I needed to fix this. How could my mate’s mother have her paying for utilities and groceries? Had my mate been cold at night in the winter? Sweating in the summer? Hungry? Fury filled me thinking it was very possible.

Clara linked, “Pizza ordered.” I told her, “Great. Can you research who owns the property the old roller skating building is on?” Clara answered, “Um, sure. Are you going to buy it?” I replied, “Yes.” Clara snickered, “Does Katie like roller skating?” I ground out, “She’s never been.” My future Beta didn’t say anything after that.

I couldn’t take my mate roller skating just yet, but I could take her to the ice skating rink since Emmett owned it. I linked Immy, “What days is Katie free?” Immy answered, “Work wise, she’s free on Wednesday.” Perfect.
