I was intrigued and grateful my mate’s friend taught her how to fight. Channing linked, “Mate is powerful.” I retorted, “Mate is royal, apparently.” Channing said, “That should tell you that we are capable and worthy. Who mates royalty to a no one?” My wolf had a point.
Whatever Odette’s god or goddess was agreed for her to be mated to me. For all the things the goddesses have fucked up, other than originally mating Lisa and Kreed, the mating pairs were spot on. Maybe I was a good Alpha.
Alexandria linked, “Odette delivered a knockout headbutt. I LOVE this girl.” Mom linked me, “Alexandria filmed this show down. I love this girl, Keaton. I LOVE her. Words don’t accurately put emphasis onto how much at this exact moment.”
I replied, “I’m glad.” Mom sighed in our link. Dad linked next, “It was a good, clean punch followed up by that headbutt.” I snorted, “It was. Is the whole family on this group chat?” Dad answered, “Alexandria might have put it in the family chat.” Oh good. The whole family was going to go off then.
Adlee was loving everything about this. Our Lead Beta Female was the nicest girl. Malachi had gone to see her dad and put the fear of god in him. Then I showed up as the Silver Blade. I’d be disappointed if her dad still tried to contact her.
Flashback
Keaton was waiting. I was in my Silver Blade gear. Adlee’s mom was out of town with her friends, so I’d come. I’d go see her and have her help me keep this man away from Adlee. I was going to make sure her dad was on notice. He was hurting Adlee’s feelings and that was going to end. He’d been an awful dad, but this should scare him into leaving her alone.
Channing declared, “We aren’t leaving until he leaves her alone.” I’d just recently got my wolf. The only reason I was here was because Channing encouraged me. I wanted Adlee’s dad to leave her alone, but I was weak for an Alpha.
Channing argued, “We are not.” I was. Even my girlfriend, Lisa, told me all the time. The thing was I wanted to be better for my wolf, so here I was. Adlee’s dad came in with a paper bag full of whiskey. He’d been making promises about alliances with our pack.
Promises he couldn’t deliver because Adlee wanted nothing to do with him. This idiot was being rude and planning to threaten her. He was a liability and he needed to stop because I wasn’t going to let him get away with this.
The threat analysis I’d completed on him for Malachi told me everything I needed to know. I didn’t hand everything I had over to my brother’s Beta because Lisa said it was too harsh. I’d tempered it down, but I knew what had to be done.
Adlee’s dad flipped on the light and dropped his stuff asking, “What do you want?” I scoffed, “Some wolf you are.” I flashed in front of him and put my blade to his neck. I angrily said, “The Daniels pack will never make the deals you want. Do you hear me?” He nodded, “Of course. I’ll stop saying that.”
I chuckled, “You already agreed and all before I introduced myself.” He whispered, “I know who the Silver Blade is.” He did? Channing boasted, “We are well known.” I guess maybe I was. I asked, “How do you know that?”
Adlee’s dad asked, “Are you serious? You’re well known for getting the job done and not exactly the clean kill kind of way. Whatever gets you to leave here with breath in my lungs is what I’m doing.” People were afraid of me?
Channing puffed up, “Of course they are, you’re great.” Wow. Maybe this was how I could contribute to my family then. I could scare people that were threatening them. I said, “Good. Then you’ll stay away from Adlee.”
The idiot scoffed, “You want me to stay away from my daughter? You can’t be serious.” I replied, “It should be easy since you did that her whole life.” He stalled, “Look, I don’t know what she spread around the Daniels pack but…”
I cut him off, “Do you think I don’t do my own research?” Adlee’s dad stammered, “What?” I laughed, “I’m one of the people that do the research on targets.” I did it all the time for my Uncle Heath and my cousin Joe.
I said, “I didn’t come here on Adlee’s word alone. To be clear, I would have. I did my own analysis of you.” I let my blade cut him. He whimpered in fear. I said, “You leave your relationship in Adlee’s hands. If she wants to talk to you, fine. If she doesn’t, I’d suggest you leave her alone or the next time we see each other you’ll wind up in pieces. Are we clear?”
Adlee’s dad whispered, “I can’t abandon my daughter.” I questioned, “Who are you lying to right now? You never liked Adlee because she wasn’t your son. You treated her as if she was invisible. The ONLY reason you are harassing her now is because she’s mated to Beta Malachi Miller. I know it just burns your guts that you missed the chance to be close to a prominent pack.”
I got in his face, “Now, you think you can slither back into Adlee’s life as if her childhood and young adult life meant nothing. You proved time and time again you didn’t like her, and you think there are no consequences for that?”
“Adlee’s asked you to leave her alone, but now I’m telling you to. Continue contacting her at your own peril. Because while she won’t kill you, I think we both know I will.” I stowed my blade and he had the gall to look relieved.
I punched him hard and jumped up on him using my strength and Channing’s. I hit his jaw so hard I knew I was breaking it in multiple places. I got up warning, “Think about how much you’d like to live while you eat your food through a straw for the next several months. You have hurt Adlee for the last time. Leave your relationship in her hands or lose your life.” With that parting line I flashed out feeling pretty good about myself.
Flashback Ends
I shook of the memory and mentally told myself I’d have to look into that. Adlee’s dad had better be continuing to leave her alone. Adlee’s parents were chosen mates. Her crappy dad loved her brother, but he was not happy to have a girl.
Then Adlee mated to Malachi and the man changed his tune. The man still didn’t love his daughter, he just wanted to use the connection. The rest of Adlee’s family was fine. Her brother tried to make up for their dad a lot, he was a good guy.
Emmett linked, “Incoming.” I sarcastically replied, “Gee, thanks. I couldn’t hear you guys or anything.” Emmett snickered, “Someone is quite testy.” I growled, “I had plans for our morning that didn’t happen. You saw Odette’s outfit that Immy conjured her, right?” Emmett just laughed in reply.
I nearly took Odette outside against my truck, but Emmett told us to go inside. I growled at him. He replied, “It’s so strange. I’ve never seen you making out with someone let alone dry humping against your truck.”
I snorted, “I’ve seen you in the throes of passion with your mate, so you’d live.” Emmett replied laughing. We weren’t Hackura, but sometimes you’d run past stuff. Or in that case, they’d been on the couch unable to help themselves. I’d never understood that until I met Odette.
Odette’s happiness was written all over her face when we went inside. I couldn’t help but be excited by her response. My mate’s eyes were bright and happy. Tears filled them, but I knew they were happy tears. Channing grumbled, “I don’t like tears.”
I wasn’t a fan, but at least Odette wasn’t upset. When Immy made introductions, a howl rang out when Clara’s Warrior buddy was introduced. Odette actually seemed concerned while Clara was fidgeting. I frowned.
