Delana got into my cell, got on the floor with me, and held me in her arms singing softly. I whispered, “Why are you helping me?” Delana answered, “We are in an unfortunate situation, Odette. I tried and gave my song a chance, but Luke didn’t measure up.”

I repeated, “Yeah, my vile ex came to my dream. I think he did anyway.” I rubbed my head. Delana rubbed my shoulders, “You can’t think about that too hard until you see your friend. Melanie says she can fix that. I don’t know how, but she did say she could.”

Delana started to leave, but she didn’t understand what I was trying to say about my ex. I said, “I know Luke pretty well. So, I know that vile piece of crap convinced you that he didn’t have anything to do with your son dying, but he did. Luke told me himself.”

A few tears escaped Delana’s eyes. I hated causing her pain, but she had to know. Delana whispered, “I knew but I didn’t want to. I was already done with Luke, but that’s the last straw. When we get out of here, I’ll reject him then go back to my childhood home.”

I told her, “Caspian said he’d help.” Delana’s hand stalled then she busted up laughing again. “You know Caspian? Of course, you do. You were song walking. Luke is going to be eviscerated. I love everything about that. My baby boy deserves justice.”

Delana whispered, “He didn’t even have a name yet.” It was my turn to hold her while she cried. I rocked her thinking of the right words, but none came. Finally, I said, “You get to name him. He’s your baby boy and he always will be.”

Delana wiped her tears, “You’re right. I have to go.” I desperately clung to her, “Wait, why are you here?” Delana grinned wickedly, “Because I am a good actress. The Merrick’s think I’ll bring you back to get justice for my son.” They were crazy then because any rational person knew I didn’t do it.

Delana scoffed, “Little do they know I want justice for my son against them, not you. They want you there, but I never did. They gave me the means to keep something they want from them, and I’m taking it. I’m hitting them where it hurts in many ways. The boy they are talking about, Keaton. He’s your song, isn’t he?”

I nodded. Delana snorted, “They are so dumb. I knew they second they were talking about his responses to their notes he was yours. The Merrick’s just believed nothing could get in the way of their plans. My how fast the mighty fall. Stay strong. I’m going to meet your friend.”

I pleaded, “Please tell Melanie that I can’t wait to see her again. I’ve missed her so much.” Delana nodded, “I will. She’s quite something. I hope you have a poker face because your friend doesn’t have one at all.” I busted up laughing, “That’s Melanie for sure. Don’t worry, I have one.” Delana nodded, then picked up her rock.

An hour after Delana left, the red eyed men came back. It hit me like lightning. These people knew Jag. I was led through rooms and then chained to a desk. Like an interrogation. A guy said, “My boss has questions for you.” He threw down a picture of Rolfe.

The guy asked, “Do you know this wolf?” I snorted, “Are you serious? I don’t know. I don’t make a habit of befriending wolves.” The guy replied, “That’s not what I hear. I hear this one follows you around.”

I frowned, “That would be news to me.” He sighed, “How about him?” He put down a picture of Jag. I shrugged, “Sorry. If your buddy was supposed to kidnap or stalk me, he’s doing a bad job. I don’t know the wolf or the guy.”

Jag and Rolfe. Were they the same person? Pain exploded in my head. The guy snorted, “That’s not why we want him. He turned on us to protect you, and he shouldn’t have been able to. Damn Sirens.” I frowned, “There were no sirens at the school attack. No one came.”

The guy snorted, “Yeah, there were. You.” I frowned, “I’m not a Siren. There were definitely no police sirens going to scare those rabies wolves off either. It was infuriating no one came to help us while we were screaming for help.”

The guy sat back, “My god, you don’t know.” I asked, “I don’t know what?” He laughed, “Lady, you’re a Siren.” I frowned, “We’ve established I’m not a siren, I can’t even make the sound.” Sassy sang softly in my head, and it clicked.

The ocean things in Caspian’s place, the hating of Mermaids, the underwater theme literally everywhere around me. Pain shot through me, and this time I screamed and clutched my head. The guy yelled, “What the fuck?”

I took several deep breaths, “I’m fine.” The guy said, “Ok, I didn’t mean you could make the sound a Siren the police have make. Obviously, you’re not a sound. You’re the creature humans believe to be mythological. You’re a Siren.”

I snorted, “I’m not.” He groaned, “Seriously? You saw wolves turn into humans.” I pointed out, “After I shot them.” He growled at me then gritted his teeth, “You’re a Siren, that’s how you ensnared Jag!” I told him, “You can rest assured I’m NOT a Siren. Do you want to know how you should know that? Other than that’s bat crap crazy!”

He asked, “Fine. Do tell me how in your mind am I wrong.” I glared at him, “If I was a Siren, I’d have lured you to me with my song AND EATEN YOU BY NOW! YOU UTTER ASSHOLE! I want KEY! I don’t want to be here anymore.” Sassy was deeply insistent we needed Keaton.

The guy sat back and laughed, “You’re pretty funny, Siren’s don’t actually eat people. Humans get parts of Supernatural lore wrong. Particularly those that don’t live in their realm. Sirens come here, but not a lot. Few live here actually.”

I told him, “The Sargasso’s are coming for you.” The guy snorted, “Sure they are. Why would you think that?” I answered, “My brother’s last name is Sargasso.” He paled and backed up. The guy asked, “What?” I knew the look on my face was smug now.

I was enjoying this reaction quite a bit. I smugly told him, “My big brother told me to tell anyone that if they came for me. So, I’m telling you since I’m here against my will and all. The Sargasso’s will come for me and so will Key.”

The guy blinked at me. I asked, “How do you know my brother’s last name?” The guy sputtered, “We aren’t exactly sworn enemies, but we don’t get along. I know the Siren clan’s names. Keaton wouldn’t know them, but he knows people who would.”

I smirked, “A Cambridge or a Holloran.” The guy gasped, “You know them?” I shrugged while smirking, given the impression I did. This dude didn’t need to know I didn’t know them. The guy hissed, “Fuck. This is so much worse than getting Jag back for my adopted sister. You’re a Sargasso. This is fucked up.”

He decided, “No, we are just ransoming you back to the wolves.” I was onboard with that plan because Keaton could probably make my head stop pounding with pain. The guy called someone, “Yeah, I know you’re watching. We are playing the long game here. This girl is better off near the Daniels boy than in the ocean.”

The guy scoffed, “You can’t be serious, it’s the Sargasso’s. How could this girl be lying? She has no goddamn clue about anything. That means they found her somehow. We can’t let the Sargasso’s come for us. I remember the stories of the clans. Of all the ones NOT to piss off it was them. Her brother is a King.” WHAT?! Actually, that makes sense.

Besides, Mafia Don and a King were similar in my mind. The guy sneered, “Sure. You are aware Caspian Sargasso leaves people with a trident through them after he rips out their guts.” Ok, so he definitely doesn’t use cement shoes.

I commented, “It’s called disemboweling someone, just for your reference.” They stared at me. I shrugged, “What? I’m just saying that’s what the technical term is in this fantasy land you live in. I’m pretty sure my brother is in the mob. So, he probably beats someone with a baseball bat or something.”

The guy laughed, “Come on, she’s funny. I see why the Daniels boy likes her.” I flipped him off. Now he said, “Yeah, well clearly being nice to him was the better route, like I said. I do like being right.” I knew without a doubt now he was talking about Lisa.
