“For most of our lives she was the only family I had left. You and Emmett can’t say that, but I know Emmett would always fight to be in your life. Even if you had ended up with Lisa as a fated or chosen mate.”
“Your mom was determined that would never happen. I’m pretty sure Haley was ready to kill Lisa if you even discussed it, but I know Emmett and Joe talked about it. Emmett said no matter what, it wouldn’t change that you were his brother.”
I wiped away tears. I told my uncle, “I love them more than I can express.” Uncle Heath responded, “I know that.” I sighed, “I just want to cement my relationship with Odette. I’ll tell them at the end of the year since I want my mate at my Alpha Ceremony.”
I paused then added, “Rya thinks there’s some spell on Odette to deny the existence of Supernatural’s. I don’t want her running from me, and I don’t want to have to fight with the family about her.” Uncle Heath sighed, “Alright. I’m telling your parents there’s a serious threat against you though. I’m not messing around with your safety.” I hadn’t expected him to.
Uncle Heath rubbed his face, “I’ll keep Odette out of it. I supposed I’ll just keep calling her not Katie to everyone else.” I snorted, “That nickname is catching on.” Uncle Heath winked, “We all call her that now. I’ll just enjoy the moment I get to say I knew before everyone else when her real name comes out.” I snorted, “Great.”
I left his house feeling a little lighter, then I went home. I found Emmett in his office. My brother was hunched over his desk talking to Malachi. Both looked up when I knocked on the open door. Malachi said, “I’ll go.” Then left the room quickly.
I asked, “What’s up with him?” Emmett answered, “He’s looking into a lot of things. The rogues we captured killed themselves somehow, but we know they aren’t rogues. Eric is opening an investigation into it.” I nodded and sat down.
Emmett asked, “What can I do for you, little brother?” I told him, “Nothing. I just wanted to say thank you for my new truck.” Emmett snorted, “The truck? It’s nothing.” I disagreed, “No, it means a lot to me. You knew I saved for that truck. I didn’t let mom and dad pay for it, and I wouldn’t have wanted them to replace it.”
I shrugged, “So, you did. I could’ve done it myself now that I have my own businesses with revenue. I did notice you got the truck I went back and forth with mine on.” Emmett smiled, “I do pay attention.” I flashed over and gave him a hug.
I whispered, “I love you, Emmett.” Emmett hugged me back, “I love you too, little brother. We have an appointment tomorrow.” I asked, “Doing what?” Emmett smiled, “Trust exercises.” I snorted, “Alright. When?”
Emmett responded, “After dinner.” I nodded, “Fair enough.” Channing told me, “I’m actually quite excited about this, Lightning is too.” Good. Emmett said, “You should have plenty of time to spend with not Katie.” I rolled my eyes and left his office.
I went to find Clara. My Beta was in her room with her computer out. Clara told me, “Luke Merrick is supposedly a college graduate, but that seems fake to me. He’s from Maine which also seems fake, but he definitely lived here. Luke also lived in Wyoming. I can’t find where he currently lives, but I think that’s intentional.”
I agreed, “It is, he’s hiding.” Clara vowed, “We’ll get him.” I nodded. We went over everything she had. I stood to leave then asked, “Did I ever ask you to look into a bronze weakness?” Clara gaped at me, “Uhh no! What the hell?!”
I sighed, “I’ve really got to write this stuff down.” My Beta slapped me playfully on the back of my head. Clara asked, “Why bronze?” I told her about my dream. Clara glared at me saying, “Next time, link me while you have sexy time. I’ll look into this.”
I changed the subject, “You seem wound pretty tight.” Clara sighed, “Ever since the school attack Shara and I have been feeling odd.” Shara was her wolf. I asked, “Odd how?” My Beta sighed, “I’m just tense all the time. I can’t figure it out. I’d think it was my mate, but I don’t smell anything strongly. I think I’m just on edge because it’s clear they aren’t rogues.”
I nodded, “Emmett said Malachi had nailed down they weren’t.” Clara sighed, “I guess Shara and I just clicked onto that early, and since they came after you and your mate, I’m on edge. You’re our Alpha and our best friend. Not Katie doesn’t know it, but she is our Luna.”
Channing came forward, “I’m ok, Shara.” Shara came forward and they hugged. Clara and I took back over. My Beta smiled, “You’re family to me and Shara. It’s not just being my Alpha.” I tussled her hair, “I know that. We were raised together.”
Clara rolled her eyes and said, “Enough mushy stuff, now get out. I have research to do.” I laughed and left her alone. I went to my room to plan the best spring break for me and Odette. I couldn’t take my mate to the cabin I took Lisa to, but my family had several properties I could take her to. Maybe that could work out.
Headaches
Odette was holding her breath waiting for Keaton to react. Sassy was not scared about my boyfriend’s reaction at all. Sassy was happily humming now that he was here. I relaxed completely when Keaton wasn’t upset about Luke’s letter.
Tatum bumped my leg. I looked down and smiled at her. Tatum was a really good puppy. Keaton thought Luke was lying about causing his accident, but I knew it was true. Luke had been involved. My ex was doing another one of his sick, twisted punishments.
Keaton was confident Luke didn’t mean to scare him or think he could. Did they actually know each other? Was everyone I knew in the mob and cursorily aware of each other? Sassy huffed. Something was prickling in my brain, but my head was actually starting to hurt. I shook those thoughts away.
Keaton and I went to bed, and I fell asleep easily. I woke up in a fog. I groaned, “Oh come on.” Through the fog I saw the black and green wolf. I called, “Come here girl!” The wolf slowly came up to me, limping. She barely made it before she collapsed. Poor thing. I heard a yip.
I called, “Tatum?” The wolf beside me huffed as if she was annoyed. Tatum came over. I smiled praising, “Aren’t you a good dog?” I stroked her fur. I told her, “You know, you’re the most well behaved puppy of all time. Almost as if…” I trailed off and screamed as a piercing pain hit my head.
I heard someone tsk, looked up, and groaned, “Valdoma. Can’t you just leave my dreams alone?” The creepy old woman just laughed, “I am enjoying checking on you. I find it fascinating how you’re working to break all my work. I’d stop if I were you.” What?
Valdoma added, “Only someone more powerful than me could stop your headaches. We wouldn’t want you to go crazy and collapse into a coma, would we?” I asked, “What are you talking about?” Valdoma smiled, “Just stop trying to think about things so hard, child. You’ve never tried to fight what I’ve done so hard before. What a unique wolf that is.”
The wolf beside me let out a growl. It sounded weak, but very angry. Valdoma snickered, “You are no threat to me, pup.” I looked between them. I didn’t know why, but I was certain the wolf beside me hated this woman. Which honestly, fair. She seemed very evil, even Noxus thought so.
Valdoma snickered, “It’s nothing personal, pup. It was a job, and interesting information to have. If you’re comparing, the other wolf I hurt was much worse.” The wolf bared her teeth and roared. My eyes widened and I put a hand on her.
Tatum began to bark ferociously. I told her, “You do not bark like a dog your size.” My head began to hurt. Valdoma advised, “Child, unless you want to go crazy stop having such thoughts. I am powerful. There is one, possibly two, around who could help you. I doubt very much you’ll run into a white wolf though.” I could, there were a lot of wolves running around.
Valdoma rolled her eyes, “The other, well she has no reason to be in this area to help you. I’ve thought about dream walking to her, but it’s harder. She’s powerful you see. Her adoptive brother is also unable to help you.” I glanced at the wolf with me wondering if the creepy Witch knew the brother was clearly not adopted based on what just happened
