I gape at him. He dares to look pleased with himself.

I cross my arms. “So that’s it?”

“I want strawberries.”

“We have strawberries.”

“Not those strawberries.”

His eyes narrow. “What does that even mean?”

“I want the strawberries from town.”

“Why?”

He points at me. “See? That’s not a reason.” I scowl as he smirks.

I hate him. I love him.

Mostly I hate him. “You’re impossible.”

“I’m keeping our child alive.”

“You act like I’m trying to juggle knives.” His stare is blank.

“You attempted to climb onto the roof last week.”

“That happened one time.”

“You were six months pregnant.”

“I dropped my book.”

“You have staff.”

His eyes close like he’s praying for patience. “Do you know what Kyle said when he saw you on the roof?”
