I drop the basket, and the closed drapes lift in the wind, revealing Sienna. Her arms are extended, and she’s gliding through Knox’s room like an airplane, humming softly with her eyes shut.

The half-open window lets in the wind, causing the drapes to lift again. Her hands are now above her head as she twirls and twirls.

She keeps her arms arched above her head, humming a melody only she knows. Around and around she goes, like a ballerina.

Her eyes open, and they’re focused. She stares at the wall in front of her, keeping her balance, stretching one leg out to keep momentum.

This is not normal. Not for most people. But it appears to be no biggie for her to spin on the spot for minutes at a time.

She exits the twirl and resumes gliding, dropping one arm to snap to a rhythm her feet move in time with.

Fuck, that was a high leg kick. She moves fluidly through the room, reaching up and down and out while making sure to exhale deeply through each movement.

I stare at her through the moving drapes, mesmerized.

And then I notice a tear in her eye. It falls down her pink cheek, with others following, but she doesn’t wipe them away. She just keeps dancing.

Her arms reach above her head, and she starts twirling again, going faster this time as she hums. I hear a little whimper—but very different from the kind she made last night.

I forget about my surroundings, zeroing in on Sienna. It’s so easy to get lost in her movements. But this isn’t her performing. She’s not doing this for fame or to be celebrated. She’s dancing for the same reasons I used to chop firewood. To cope.

I tilt my head as I watch her move like an angel.

I thought I had Sienna figured out, but what if I’m completely wrong? She flows through the room, moving with passion. It’s coming straight from the heart, and I know this because I feel the fire in mine, all the way from the other side of the window.

She says she doesn’t know who she is when the cameras stop rolling. But this is her. She does know who she is when she’s not being watched. If only she could recognize what’s going on.

Chapter 22

Sienna

“EXCLUSIVE: Sienna Lane Takes All Three.”

I toss my phone on the bed. “Fuck off.”

I try to force myself to go back to sleep, but my heart’s beating way too fast. No good can come from checking your phone first thing in the morning, but it’s what I’ve done for so long now. There are always texts and emails to answer.

I lay awake in bed watching the sun come up through the crack in the drapes. The sky is almost purple and full of clouds. I hope it storms so I have an excuse to do nothing for another day.

My phone rings and it’s Jules. “Feeling any better this morning?”

“You’re up early.”

“I woke up in a panic again, worrying about you. So, are you okay?”

“Not great,” I begin, “that uncensored page I was telling you about has two million subscribers, as of a few minutes ago.”

“I spoke to someone yesterday who’s working on getting that shut down. Any news on when you’ll be back?”

“Nope.”

“Is that Cash guy still bothering you?”

“I haven’t seen him since last night, but I anticipate more drama from him today,” I sigh. “The little boy, Henry…” My voice breaks even just mentioning his name. “I’m so scared he’s going to get brought into this. Cash is right—people know where they live now. And it’s all my fault.”

“Whoa. None of this is your fault. You can’t blame yourself for other people’s actions.”

“But that’s it. This is just who I am. No matter where I am in the world, people follow. I’m at the top of a mountain, Jules, and someone still found me.”
