“What Valentina and I have isn’t love.”
I toss my hands into the air. “What is it then? You’re getting married.”
“Business with mutual benefit.”
I frown. “Are you sure about that? Because from where I was standing on the red carpet, the girl was crying tears of happiness, completely in love with you.”
“She’s young.”
Holy hell.
“You’re a liar and a cheater.” I narrow my eyes. “Valentina is totally out of your league.”
“Come on, Sienna,” sighs Holden. “What we have is special. You know that.”
I raise a brow. “It’s only special now because I’m fucking other guys.”
He clenches his jaw and looks away, revealing a horrendous side profile. I swear his hairline wasn’t always this bad.
Looks like a fucking isosceles triangle now.
“Think about this for a second. It’s the only way to save your career.”
“What?”
“I don’t have any drama attached to my name. People used to like you when we were together. You were respected. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”
“It was,” I say. “Up until I lost Grammy last year.”
Holden bows his head, pretending to give a fuck. He didn’t say much when I told him about Grammy’s passing, other than, “It’ll get better with time.” Classic, narcissistic response.
“Think with your head for a moment, Sienna. You’d be clean again. All of the drug allegations would disappear.”
I fold my arms over my chest. “Why are you so desperate to get back together? What’s in it for you?” I study his eyes. God, I used to love looking into his eyes. But not anymore. “All you care about is your precious image.”
“You’re the world’s biggest star, Sienna. Good press? Bad press? It all means the same thing in the end.”
I sit back in my chair and take a victorious lap in my head. I never thought I’d see the day when Holden Gray was begging to be worn like a purse.
Chapter 29
Sienna
“The dude is a walking ick,” I say to Jules while we’re browsing through the shops. “An ick and a leech. And a cheater.”
“Anything else you wanna add to that list?” chuckles Jules.
“A compulsive liar.”
God, the list could go on forever.
“You’re a hundred percent right. Especially the leech part.” Jules unhooks a leather jacket from the rack and assesses it. “When you live a ‘normal’ Hollywood life, you get steady PR. But steady PR never brings in the big money, which is all Holden’s ever cared about.” She studies the jacket’s seams. She’s obsessed with triple stitching. “Holden’s always been the designer handbag. And now that you’re seeing your own worth, you’re seeing the truth.”
Speaking of the truth, I miss my men. All three of them. I never thought I’d say that about Cash, but it was hot the way he stood up for me when the paparazzi invaded. Actions speak louder than words. He definitely cares.
All of them do.
They care so much that I almost feel like I don’t deserve them.
