Out of the blue, Grace pulled ahead. Just for the hell of it, she rode into the wind, blazing dramatically around the steep bends. Behind her, Andrew struggled to keep up.
"Where are ye going? Where are ye taking us?" asked Andrew.
Grace couldn't help but smile. "Ye'll see. But there's just one thing—ye'll have tae pay me first!"
She stopped dead in the road without any sort of warning. Behind her, Andrew came to a halt. He was not impressed.
"What?" he asked, scratching his head. He stared at her like she was mad.
"I said, ye'll have tae pay me first," she said, eyeing him coolly. "Like we said."
Grace smiled sweetly. Now they were head to head on the windy hilltop route. Andrew's thick brows drew together in a blaze of worry.
"We didnae say," he contested, but Grace just smiled.
"I'm nae going a step further until ye do," she said. Folding her arms, she sat there, smirking. "So come on, pretty penny. Some coinage, sir."
Her words disintegrated on the wind, but Andrew clearly heard her. With a sigh, he drew his pouch and reached into it reluctantly.
Then, he pressed a shiny coin into her palm. "There," he said, proffering a shilling into her hands.
"Now, will ye help me?"
A twinkle came into Grace's eyes. She stared at the round and gold coin in her palm.
"Aye, but..." She smirked, placing the gold coin into her purse. She tugged at Sparkle's reins.
"...ye'll have tae catch me first!"
