“He seems like a troublemaker,” Olivia agreed laughingly.
“Believe me he is.” Now that he’d started, he realized he wanted to share everything with her. The good, the bad, the ugly. Problem was, he still hadn’t confessed exactly who he was. “What about you? Parents, siblings?”
“Yes, to both. My parents have been happily married for over forty years. I have an older sister who married her high school sweetheart. And I’m the proud aunt of a precocious three-year old niece.”
“You’d make a good mother.” James said, looking into her eyes.
“I hope so. One day.” Olivia looked down, not wanting him to see that dream shining back at him. Their relationship was much too new to talk about marriage and babies. Now how one went about creating babies…she was more than ready to explore that with him.
Finally, it was time for dessert. Olivia declined; her stomach suddenly filled with butterflies.
“I,” she started to be interrupted by James.
“Olivia—”
Olivia gave a soft laugh. “You first.”
He reached across the table and took her hand. “I don’t want this night to end,” he admitted.
“Neither do I,” she answered.
“Come back to my place?”
His eyes were dark, sober. She wasn’t naïve enough not to realize he was asking her for more than a night cap. Common sense told her to say no. This was moving too fast, regardless of how she felt. But she was tired of being practical. For once, she wanted to be reckless. “Yes.”
