“So you noticed that?”
“Yep. I didn’t know that color of amber even existed.” She was referring to when his eyes had brightened as he came inside her. “He—you are beautiful.”
“As are you.” He kissed her softly, lingering against her still puffy lips.
“But there is something I need to tell you.”
Keair knew exactly what his mate was about to say. “You do?” He let his hand drift down her body, before swirling a finger around her belly. “And what is that, my love?”
“Damn it,” Grace snapped. “You know!”
Keair grinned at her, placing his palm against her stomach. “Indeed, I do.”
“Did Bachar tell you, because if he did…”
“No. He did not. You forget I am an alpha as well.”
Grace smiled at him, loving the feel of his warm hand against her, against their cub. “So why didn’t you say something before now?” She was pretty sure she was at least three weeks pregnant, having conceived the night they mated.
“I did not want to spoil your fun.”
“Humph,” she snorted. “What fun was that? Trying to hide my morning sickness from you? Good thing I wake up much earlier than you do most mornings.”
“I will be there from now on,” he promised, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“That’s nice.” She was torn between being lulled into sleepiness by the feel of his hand rubbing her stomach and the sound of the rain hitting the window and the feel of his cock, hard and strong beneath her buttocks.
“There is something I need to tell you as well, Grace.”
Grace gave a soft chuckle. “Oh, I know what you want, big boy.” She ground herself against him, making him groan and close his eyes. He grabbed her hip, holding her down against his dick.
“This is important,” he said, as she continued to roll her hips.
“Okay. What is it?”
“Do not be scared,” he cautioned.
“Keair, what’s wrong?” She sat straighter. The look on his face was very serious. She knew they had been having more trouble with The Group—a band of humans intent on causing trouble for the shifters in the area. Plus, the fact that Sally was due to give birth any time—or at least she looked as if she were. In truth, she still had a few more weeks to go.
“Calm down, my love. It is not serious. Just, maybe a little unnerving. I know I was unnerved when I discover—”
Grace placed her hand over Keair’s mouth. “Just tell me already.”
He bit the flesh of her fingers gently and gathered her hand in his, entwining their fingers and placing them on her stomach.
“We are having twins.”
“What!” Never in a million years would Grace have expected that news.
“Twins. Two cubs.”
“That’s, that’s….terrifying,” Grace murmured.
“Yes, and equally so, because they are twin girls.” Keair smiled at her. “I will not get any rest.”
“Girls?”
“Yes, beautiful girls who will look just like their mother.” He pressed his mouth to hers and kissed her until he tasted the salt from the tears falling from her eyes.”
“Grace?” He cupped her jaw and looked into her eyes. “Are you not happy?”
She sniffled and nodded her head. “Of course I am. I’m so damn happy, I’m crying,” she said as more and more tears fell.
Keair gathered her close and let her cry, holding her until the ‘happiness’ passed. Then, he proceeded to give her something to really be happy about.
