“Things have been, shit—pardon the pun—heating up between us lately. And I mean, really getting hot.”

“Yeah?” he asked with a salacious grin.

“Yeah.” I couldn’t help but grin too, but quickly added, “Don’t bother asking for details, because I’m not giving you any.”

“Awww, come on, man. Throw me a bone here. I’m in the worst dry spell of my life.”

“I find that hard to believe.”

“I never joke about sex. Or lack thereof.”

“You could walk out onto the street and get any woman—or man—you wanted. What’s the problem?” I asked, happy to be on to a different subject once again.

“That’s the problem. I don’t just want anyone. There’s only one I want. And she’s proving to be more difficult to find than Jimmy Hoffa’s corpse.”

“Well, our buddy over there is going to be a corpse if my Blaze has her way with him when she hears this latest development. He’d better watch his back for the next few days.”

“So you’re going to tell her?”

“It will be better coming from me than anyone else. At least I think it will. I may have to restrain her first, though.” My dick gave an involuntary jerk, and I had to shift in my seat.

“You’re such a bastard.” Elijah chuckled. “You had to plant that image in my head, didn’t you?”

Without thinking, I punched him in the arm. Hard.

“Oww! What was that for?”

I aggressively pointed a finger in his face. “You don’t think of her that way. Ever,” I warned.

“Goddamn, Twombley. I didn’t realize you were in so deep.”

I dropped my chin to my chest and shook it slowly from left to right. After a few beats, I looked back up to see he was still rubbing his arm.

“I’m not sure I realized it either.”

Chapter Eleven

Rio

Lunch?

A text from Grant.

Busy. I have to do the deliveries today.

Then meet me at my

Brentwood place tonight.

No.

Blaze. Stop this.

Friendzone. Remember?

8 p.m. Don’t make me wait.

Ugh. I tossed my phone down on the desk, which caused Hannah, Abbi, and Dori to stop what they were doing and look in my direction.
