"Armani!" her mama snapped.

Armani didn't even look at her.

"If Kaior doesn't want to answer your calls, that's her choice. Now you can either respect it or check it. Figure it out the same way she had to. Either way..." She shrugged. "Welcome to the other side."

She turned on her heel and walked down the hallway without another word.

Samantha sighed, stepping out onto the porch and pulling the door partway shut behind her.

"Kyrie, look at me."

I did.

"A woman can only take so much before she stops fighting for something." Her voice was steady but not mean like Armani. "I don't know everything that happened between you two, and honestly, at this point, it's not really my business to know. But I do know my daughter, and she doesn't shut down over nothing."

"I made a mistake," I confessed just above a whisper.

"Then that's between you and her." She placed a hand on my shoulder. "Right now, the best thing you can do is give her some time to cool off. Chasing her down like this isn't gonna fix anything."

I nodded, though it did nothing to ease the ache in my chest.

"She'll come around when she's ready," Samantha added. "Or she won't. Either way, showing up here upset isn't gonna change her mind."

I didn't have anything left to say, so I thanked her, apologized for showing up unannounced, and walked back to my truck. I sat there for a long moment before I finally pulled off. Instead of going home to an empty house, I decided to go and see Talia. If nothing else, she could get me off and make me forget about my problems temporarily. I called her twice on the way over, but she didn't pick up. Her car was parked out front when I pulled up, so I knew she was there.

I let myself in, calling out as I walked through the door. "Talia?"

Laughter drifted from the back of the apartment, so I walked down the hallway toward the bedroom to see who she was talking to.

My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach when I saw Chanel sitting on the edge of Talia's bed, cross-legged, playing peekaboo with Kyrah. Just as I was about to turn around, Chanel's head turned toward the door. Her eyes moved from me to Talia, then to Kyrah. I watched her put it together in real time.

"I know you fucking lying." She stood up and looked at Talia. "Don't tell me... this is your baby daddy. "Bitch... you been fucking my sister's man and had a whole baby by him?"

"Chanel, wait—" Talia started, but her voice cracked and the tears started to fill her eyes before she could get another word out. "I'm sorry, I—"

"Sorry? Bitch you've been my friend for years. YEARS!” she screamed. “And you couldn't tell me you were sleeping with my sister's man?"

"It's complicated—"

"It's not complicated! It's disgusting!"

Chanel looked over at Kyrah sitting on the bed before she cocked her hand back and slapped fire out of Talia’s ass.

"That's for smiling in my face every day knowing you were fucking my sister's man."

Chanel turned to me with pure disgust in her eyes. "And I'm glad she found her a new nigga, 'cause you ain't shit, bitch-ass nigga."

She snatched her purse off the dresser and looked between the two of us like she couldn't stand to be in the same room with us. Hell, I couldn’t blame her.

"Don't call me anymore, Talia. We're done."

She shook her head.

"This friendship died the day you decided to lay up with him. And you have the nerve to have my sister watching your baby and spending money on her. You foul as fuck pussy ass hoe."

Then she looked at me. “And you ain’t no better, dirty ass nigga. All this time you been playing in my sister face.”

Chanel walked towards the door where I was standing, and as she passed me, she punched me in the face. Her hit was so hard it snapped my head to the side. Those damn sisters hit hard as fuck. But I didn’t do anything. I didn't even try to block it because I deserved that shit.
