"What are you thinking about?"
I looked up, and for once, I decided to just be honest. "How easy this is with you. And how hard everything else has been."
He reached across the table and took my hand, running his thumb across my knuckles, and neither of us said anything else for a while. My phone buzzed again on the table, then again, Kyrie's name flashing across the screen each time. I finally picked it up and powered it all the way off, setting it face-down beside my plate.
"Where's your girlfriend?" I asked, glancing back up at him.
He raised an eyebrow, amused. "Don't you think it's a little late to be asking me that?"
"No."
He shook his head, smiling. "I'm single."
I didn't say anything else. I just let that answer sit with me because I wasn't ready to examine his answer yet.
By the time he dropped me back off at Mama's, the morning had fully set in. He put the car in park but didn't get out.
"I'll call you later," he said, leaning over to kiss me softly.
"Okay."
I climbed out, and he didn't pull off until I was all the way inside the house and the door shut behind me. I caught his taillights finally moving through the window as I turned around. Armani was sitting on the couch with her phone in her hand. The second she saw me, her whole face lit up.
"Ouuuu, bitch!" She jumped up. "I know you did everything."
"Nothing happened."
"You a damn lie." She pointed at my head. "Look at your hair. Looks like you ran a damn marathon."
I burst out laughing before I could stop myself. "Because I did."
Armani let out a scream, jumping up and down like she'd won something. "BITCH! I want all the details. Come on."
Armani grabbed my hand and dragged me down the hallway into her room. This fool practically shoved me onto the bed before dropping down across from me. She tossed her phone aside, giving me her full, undivided attention.
I gave her the quick version of the yacht, the sunrise, breakfast, dinner and how he had me climbing the walls, literally. My sister was my best friend, and she was the only person that knew all of business and vice versa. She was literally my human diary.
By the time I finished, Armani was fanning herself dramatically with both hands.
"Girl," she said, shaking her head. "You are so done for."
I didn't argue with that. I couldn't. Because she was right.
"Alright," I said, standing up and stretching. "I need to head home and shower."
Armani grinned, falling back onto the bed. "Yeah, you do that, 'cause I know that kitty sweaty."
"Might be." I laughed, grabbing my purse off her dresser.
“I love the new walk he blessed you with sis. It looks good on you.”
I laughed so hard. “Girl, shut up!”
Right as I reached the door, Mama appeared in the hallway with her arms crossed and eyeing me up and down. "I thought I heard you in here." She tilted her head. "Where have you been all night?"
"Out."
"Out where? All night, Kaior? I know you grown but that don't mean—"
