Valet pulled my truck around, and I settled into the passenger seat while Hulk eased into traffic. Kaior had no idea what she just started.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Taffy sat across from me at my kitchen table, scrolling through her phone while I finished pulling dishes out of the sink. She had been here since the afternoon, mostly keeping me company since I hadn't been in the mood to be alone with my own thoughts.

"So," she said, not even bothering to look up. "You gon' tell me what happened when Jokah got home and found you in that bed, or am I supposed to keep guessing?"

I sighed, drying my hands on the towel hanging off the oven handle. "Girl, don't even remind me."

"I'm reminding you. Now, talk."

"He wasn't happy."

"Obviously." She finally looked up. "What did he say?"

"Asked who let me in. Called Hulk up to the penthouse and had him get me an Uber like I was some random bitch he brought home after the club."

Taffy's mouth fell open before the laugh came out of her, loud and unbothered. "He did not."

"He did."

"Shania." She wiped under her eyes, still laughing. "You really got escorted out the man's penthouse."

"Bitch, that's not funny."

"It's a little funny."

"It's humiliating."

"It's hilarious," she said, still cracking up. "You laid up in that man's bed like you still had a key, and he had security walk you out."

"I said it's not funny."

She finally caught her breath and wiped her eyes again. "Okay, okay. My bad."

"Man, I even gave that nigga head, and he still put me out."

Taffy froze for half a second then busted out laughing all over again. "Bitch! That make it worse!"

"I know right!"

"Obviously it wasn't good enough!"

Before I could respond, the bedroom door opened down the hall, and Cody came shuffling out in his socks, his hair still messy from earlier.

"Ma?"

"Yeah, baby?"

"Is Jokah coming to my football game on Saturday?"

I felt Taffy's eyes cut over to me, but I kept my attention on my son. "Yeah, baby, he'll be there."

Cody's whole face lit up. "For real?"

"For real."

"Okay." He rubbed at his stomach. "I'm hungry."
