Shania laughed, but there wasn't anything funny about it. "So that's really what we doing?"
I didn't answer.
She stood there another few seconds, waiting on me to change my mind, but I didn't.
"Fine."
Shania bent down and grabbed her purse and dress off of the floor, tucking the balled-up dress under her arm instead of putting it back on. She headed toward the door barefoot with my T-shirt hanging halfway down her thighs. She stopped near the bedroom door and looked down at it.
"Mm-mm." She smoothed the front of it with both hands. "It's mine now. Consider this my emotional support. Since I can't have you, I'll take this"
"Shania."
She looked over at me. "You know what your problem is?"
"I got a few, humor me."
"You think you can replace me."
"I already told you this was over."
"Keep telling yourself that." She shrugged and shook her head. "But I’m telling you this ain't over."
Her eyes glistened for a split second before she blinked the tears away. She brushed past Hulk without looking back and walked out.
Hulk looked at the closed door, then back at me.
"You want me to make sure she gets home?"
"Yeah."
"And after that?"
I leaned back against the headboard and let out a long breath. "Change every damn code in this place."
Hulk nodded.
"I'll handle it."
The bedroom door clicked shut behind them. I rubbed my face and sighed.
"This bitch. Never again."
CHAPTER SIX
My phone vibrated against the nightstand just as I was finally getting comfortable. I reached over before it could buzz a second time. When I saw that it was Talia, I turned my head toward Kaior. She was still dead asleep beside me, curled up on her side with half the blanket wrapped around her. I had just gotten home from another overnight shift, showered, and climbed into bed. Sleep was finally starting to win the battle.
Quietly, I slipped out of bed, grabbed my phone, and eased into the bathroom before answering.
"Hey."
"You made it home?"
"Yeah."
"You sound tired."
"I am."
