CHAPTER ONE
"I should've slashed his tires."
My sister, Armani, looked up from the driver’s seat and sighed for what had to be the tenth time in twenty minutes.
"No, you shouldn't have."
"I should've."
"You would've gone to jail."
"I would've looked cute in my mugshot."
"Cute don't get your bond paid."
"As long as he had four flat tires, I wouldn’t give a fuck."
She laughed, shaking her head as she eased her car onto I-95 South.
"See this is why I'm making you come out tonight. You over there plotting felonies on that man."
I folded my arms across my chest and stared out the window. "I'm not plotting."
"Kaior, please!"
"I'm venting."
"You need therapy."
"I need an alibi."
She laughed harder. "Jesus, please help my sister."
"I'm serious. He keeps playing in my face."
"Then let him play by himself."
That was easy advice when you ain't the one trying to walk away from three years. Armani had never loved somebody long enough to understand why leaving wasn't as easy as everybody made it sound.
Tonight wasn't any different. Kyrie said he was still at work. My phone vibrated in my lap and when I looked at the screen, I saw that it was him texting me.
I stared at the text for a few seconds before locking my phone. There was no need to reply because if I did, I was cursing his ass out.
Armani glanced over. "Kyrie?"
“Yeah.”
"What he say?"
"Another truck came in."
She sucked her teeth.
"Damn. Black Tide Logistics be working the hell outta him."
"Chy, I guess."
I tried to laugh, but it didn't come out right. Lately, everything was another truck, an extra shift and another excuse. He's been ignoring my calls and texts lately. It wasn’t like this in the beginning. Kyrie always worked overnight, but that didn’t stop us from talking and going out on dates. So, all of those signs led to another bitch.
