I stare at him then laugh. “That’s funny.”

“I’m not joking.”

I blink, sitting the mug down on the table beside me that I had been sipping. “You mean like here?”

“No, not here.” He snorts.

What is happening right now?

“No?” I try in confusion.

“I mean outside the cabin,” he shrugs.

“Outside,” I echo. “As in public?”

“Yes.”

“With people,” I add.

“Presumably.”

“With exits.”

He tilts his head, smirking. “Yes, with all those things.”

“Why—what? Why casually suggest taking me into public like that’s not a whole thing?”

“It is a thing, but that’s why I’m asking. I’d like to take you on a date, Sadie. Do the whole… normal thing.” He clarifies—as if that helps my confusion.

“Why are you asking?” I narrow my eyes, rightfully cynical.

“Because I trust you.”

What the fuck does that even mean?

“Sounds like a terrible idea.”

He shrugs. “Possibly.”

“You kidnapped me, Alex. I would think taking the person you snatched up into the waking world is a poor idea.” I point out.

“I’m aware,” he muses.

“And if I scream and bolt the second I get the chance?”

He smirks, pushing up from his chair to close the space between us. I still in my own, eyes darting up to him as he comes down to lean across me, his hands gripping either of the arms to block me in.

“Come now, Sadie.” He purrs softly. “You and I both know you like being chased.”

I scoff and smack him with the pillow I yank out from behind my back. “That’s insane.”

“Mm,” he agrees. “But not unfounded.”

I shake my head regardless, settling my arms across my chest. “You can’t seriously expect me to just play along.”

“I’m not expecting anything, I’m offering.” He soothes.

“And if I say no?” I hum, pretending that I might.
