He stepped closer, desperation flickering in his eyes."Can you go back?If you can go back, can you take someone with you?Can you—?"

"Rex," bellowed Moe.

Rex straightened to his full height.

Moe stood a few feet away, his jaw tight, his eyes cold.He didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to.The threat was in the stillness of his body, the way his hands curled at his sides.

"Leave," Moe said.

Rex stood even taller. He had to be almost seven feet tall."I was just—"

"Now."

Rex backed away, eyes darting between them.He slipped out of the store without another word.

Jillian's pulse thundered in her ears. She looked at Moe.His gaze intensified, and her stomach dropped.

He walked toward her slowly, his eyes locked on hers, and she realized with a cold rush that he wasn't messing around. Not with Rex.Not with her.Not with anyone.

She wasn't safe here.

Especially not with him.

Chapter 5

Moe

––––––––

Moe sat on the couch, elbows on his knees, eyes fixed on the bathroom door. The sound of the shower ran steady behind it, steam curling out from the crack at the bottom. He stared across the room, making sure not to let his guard down. With Jillian, he could travel back through the veil.

He'd eaten dinner at the restaurant with Jillian sitting across from him, picking at her food like she wasn't hungry.Copper had watched them both too closely.Moe didn't like the way the other men in Everstill looked at her either. He understood that having a woman around would bring a lot of attention. The same thing happened when Kallie showed up.

Finn had broken away from his scheduled walks and spent less time riding motorcycles with Moe.His friend became possessive of Kallie, never letting her out of his sight.

Now he understood why.The same thing happened to him with Jillian. She belonged to him, not the others in Everstill.
