“Aight! Like a couple weeks!” I lied, afraid of how she’d react if I told her it’d been over a year.

“You’re a fucking liar! That stupid bitch already told me it’s been almost two fucking years!”

“Don’t act like you wasn’t about to fucking break up with me, Day! You asked for a break!” I roared back. “Nigga told me a minute ago he was gon’ be with you, and he ain’t do that shit for no fucking reason!”

“Yes, Shaun, I was wrong for what I did, but at least I planned to end shit with you. You’ve been fucking her for two years and never planned to come clean or even end our relationship. Whether you believe it or not, I was not about to carry on with him and you.” She expelled a heavy breath. “To keep it real, before he and I started anything, I knew as soon as I was released, if I was released, I was gonna end shit with you. I didn’t want a break. I wanted out.”

“The fuck?”

That shit surprised me. Initially when Daylin mentioned a break, I assumed she was stressed about work or some other shit, and we’d get past it. But to know she wanted to actually part ways and even before old boy had gotten into her head was wild to hear.

“Yes. I only wish I’d had the balls and didn’t need my life to be in danger to have done the shit months ago.” She paced. “Now I am just as bad as you.”

“Wish you’d broken up with me so you could’ve fucked with old boy with a clear conscience, huh?” I laughed, and when she didn’t correct me, I instantly became irate. “I’m glad I didn’t actually wait for you to break your celibacy and got my shit off with Morgin.”

Before I could even let out my maniacal ass chuckle, Daylin charged me and immediately started swinging on my ass.

My hardwood floors didn’t complement my wet feet at all, and next thing I knew, I was slipping and sliding all over the place as Daylin slammed her fists on my face and the back of my head repeatedly. The more I tried to catch my balance and simultaneously hold my towel up, the more I skated and floated all over the hallway and kitchen. Wearing sneakers, Daylin had perfect grip and stability, following me around while being all over my ass like white on rice.

Loud bangs on the door from my nosy ass neighbor saved my life, because it made Daylin stop for a moment.

“How you mad at me when you been fucking the nigga that kidnapped you, you stupid bitch! Probably planned that fake ass kidnapping!” I was hot, head throbbing, nose bleeding, and I bit my newly stitched tongue. “Arrghh!” I screamed my fucking head off when Daylin kicked my dick with them hard ass shoes.

“I did not plan shit! But I sure did fuck him! I cannot believe I felt bad for that shit! I knew you were up to something!” She stormed to my door and yanked it open, making my neighbor stumble back in fright. “And if you haven’t guessed, stupid bitch, the relationship is over!” She barked at me. “Move!” She snapped on my neighbor who jumped to the side as I lay on the floor, cupping my pulsating privates.

I lay there on the floor until the pain in my balls and dick subsided enough, then stood to my feet and shut my front door, putting a chain on this time. I’d forgotten when I came home initially that Daylin had a key to my place.

I doctored up my face, doing what I could, and then slipped on some boxers to go lie down since a nigga had a headache. When I grabbed my phone, I saw I had a text from an unknown number.

Unknown: Damn. That went better than I thought. Don’t worry about her. I’m gon’ love the shit out of her. :)

I immediately started looking around to see if I could spot a camera of any kind, wondering how that creepy ass nigga knew anything.

As much as I loved Day, I didn’t know if she was worth getting back. Additionally, I wasn’t too fond of having a woman that could hit like a grown ass man.

Shaun and I were broken up a couple days sooner than planned. The nigga had lied about his true return date, and it was obvious as to why. Though I too had cheated, finding out that Shaun had been fucking Morgin for almost two years was insane to me. I felt legit guilt every time I even smiled at the thought of Rakim, and the whole time this man had been sexing Morgin.

I felt foolish. Here I was being Miss Goodie Two Shoes at all the parties Morgin took me to, turning down niggas who were fine as fuck even at the damn gas station, when the whole time I was being dogged out. Then for Morgin to be bashing Shaun knowing she was fucking him the whole time, made me feel like an idiot.

For the past few days, I’d been trying to think of all the signs I’d possibly missed. And the only one that came to me was how against my relationship Morgin was. I knew a huge red flag was when a friend couldn’t stand your man and for no reason or constantly brought your man up, unwarranted, and how you should leave him. It was usually because they wanted you to leave his ass so they could have him.

Same way it was a red flag when your man had a visceral reaction to a homegirl of yours, constantly telling you to cut her off and for no real reason. That was usually because he wanted you to unfriend her ass before she spilled the beans about fucking him. Shaun never spoke on Morgin, per se, and never had a reaction to her, so there was nothing there for me to catch. He didn’t like her, but I assumed it was because he knew she consistently tried to hook me up.

But her? Oh yeah, I missed that. I took her dislike of Shaun as a sign of her immaturity, judging a man’s value by how many people knew him or his pockets.

I sighed, shaking my head as I pulled into the large parking lot of the Godfrey Boxing Gym. The place was beautiful and appeared to be two or three floors, the logo being gold and red with boxing gloves hanging out of the O in Godfrey.

“Hi, do you have an appointment, or are you just here to work out freely?” A girl seated at the front desk cheesed at me.

“Neither. I’m here to see Rakim. My name is Daylin.” I lifted the bag of food to show her, and she paused for a moment like a robot trying to process my words.

“Who are you to Rakim?” she interrogated.

“His girl.” I kept it short, not liking the way she’d asked.
