“Fine.” Jim dug in his pocket and pulled out the keys to hand to his wife.

Watching Razor in action taking no shit from anyone amused and reassured Rosa. She could tell he cared about his patients and understood their personalities. If she had to trust someone, Rosa would choose Razor.

“Take care,” Razor told him cheerfully before turning to Street and Rosa. “I’m sorry you had to wait. Come to room two.”

“How did he put a nail through his hand?” Street asked as he boosted Rosa to her feet.

“Someone smashed their head through one of the wood panels on the wall at Inferno last night. Jim replaced the damaged section on his own instead of getting help to hold the wood in place as instructed,” Razor explained.

“And the panel slipped,” Street guessed.

“Throwing off the nail gun. Getting him unfastened from the wall was the biggest challenge.”

Rosa glanced between the two men, absolutely horrified by the scenario they discussed. “Ouch!”

“Exactly, Rosa. Come on back. Let me look at your injury first.”

Rosa glanced down at her hand as she allowed Street to guide her to the exam room. Thank goodness she hadn’t done something that scary.

“Up on the table, Little girl,” Razor announced and waited patiently for her to settle into place.

“How does this feel?” he asked, checking the slightly pink patches where the busted blisters had occurred.

“It’s good. I’d say ninety-five percent perfect,” Rosa rushed to assure him. She would have said one hundred percent but figured she’d risk him not believing her since her hand held traces of her injury.

“Good. This pink skin tells us these spots are still healing. If you promise me you’ll always wear gloves, I’ll give your Daddy the okay that you can help Fury now,” Razor said.

“I promise,” Rosa blurted. She’d do her best to keep them on all the time. Well, unless she needed to hold a pipe barehanded to get a better grip.

“Always,” Razor repeated, giving her a look that signaled to Rosa that he suspected she might have other plans.

“Okay. I’ll wear them,” Rosa said, understanding Razor wouldn’t give her permission unless she meant it.

“Done.” Razor glanced at Street and warned, “Remind Fury as well. Most likely, he won’t forget, but stressing Rosa’s need for gloves and asking him to check sporadically will help Rosa remember not to take them off even for a second to do something. Duct tape around the wrist opening would work if she doesn’t follow directions.”

Rosa swallowed hard. Razor had accepted her promise but had layered another level of supervision on her. Honey must not get away with anything. Her friend’s statement about feeling better after a spanking ricocheted into her mind.

Street chuckled. “Good idea, Razor. I’ll tell Fury when I talk to him.”

“Now, we’d discussed birth control earlier,” Razor said, watching Rosa’s face. “Did you want to have an exam so I can prescribe pills for you?”

Street allowed Rosa to answer.

“Yes, please.” Rosa swallowed hard and whispered, “I’m kinda scared.”

“Would you like me to share what I’m doing as I perform your physical?”

Rosa nodded. Her muscles had already stiffened with stress, making the movement small. She wiggled her shoulders, trying to relax.

“Then that’s what I’ll do. Okay, Rosa. Your Daddy is going to help you undress while I update your records. I’ll meet you at the scale to record your weight and height.”

Razor picked up a paper file and walked to the counter. He jotted a few notes in her file as he waited patiently.

“Up on your feet, Dinorosa,” Street said, helping her slide from the paper covering the table. Without rushing her, Street stripped off her T-shirt and shoes before removing her jeans, panties, and socks.

She held his hand as she walked naked to the scale. The bright light in the medical room felt like a spotlight. All those nervous feelings had rebounded and multiplied. She shivered in the air-conditioned space as she stepped onto the old-fashioned scale. Focusing on the wall in front of her, Rosa avoided looking at either of the two men. She could do this.

“Good job, Rosa. Street, she’s gained a couple of pounds since her hand injury. She’s still underweight, so keep offering nutritious food whenever she’s hungry. I’ll note this in your chart while you climb onto the table, Rosa.”
