“Maybe.”He undid the tie on the folder the director had given them and pulled the papers out.He went through them quickly and found the directions to a cabin in the middle of nowhere.A GPS couldn’t even find it.They had enough food for a few days, but then one would have to go into the nearest town for supplies.Beau shook the envelope, and blocks of twenty-dollar bills fell out. There had to be at least $5,000 there.

Diego glanced over.“Shit.That’ll get us by for a while,” he said sarcastically.

“Yeah, I think so, too.”

“How far do we have to go?”

Beau looked at the map for a bit.“It looks like it’s not far.The cabin is deep in the Shenandoah National Park.About three hours. It’ll take us an hour and a half to get to the park, maybe longer if we take back roads.”

Beau settled back in his seat and looked out the window. He thought about taking a nap, but wanted to be alert for any trouble they might encounter.

Fuck, when he and Diego came home from the last mission, they had been at a loss as to what step to take. They didn’t want to go back to any hellhole. They’d had enough violence to last the rest of their lives, but they frankly didn’t know how to live a normal life.It had been too many years since seeing the worst of people, and “normal” wasn’t a word he could use anymore.

This assignment might turn out to be a godsend. It would give them time to come up with a plan.

Beau kept glancing out the rearview mirror but hadn’t seen anything suspicious, so he relaxed. He wouldn’t let his guard down, though.Hell, he didn’t know if that was even possible.Could he and Diego live a relatively normal life? He’d have to wait and see.

Chapter Three

Jayla started movingaround in the back seat when they were within a mile of the cabin.

Beau laid his arm on the seat and turned to check on her.“Are you waking up?”

Jayla tried to turn, but her ribs reminded her she had to be careful for a few days. She knew she should be nervous in a car with two men she didn’t know, but the director told her a little about them, and he trusted them with his life.

“I’m fine.Where are we?”

The men jerked at the sound of her voice.

“We’re almost at the cabin your godfather sent us to.”

“Could we just call him Director and not Godfather?”

The director had made it sound like they were close, but from her tone, it wasn’t true. The men glanced at each other but otherwise kept quiet.

“Sure.I’m Beau, and the one driving is Diego.”
