“You don’t have to pretend like me having a child with someone other than you doesn’t bother you.”

“I didn’t say it didn’t bother me, but there’s nothing to talk about. Regardless of who her mother is, she’s an extension of you. I already love her because I love you, and if I ever meet her, she’ll see and feel nothing but love.”

“Hearing you say that makes me love you even more. Thank you for not allowing what happened between us to make you resent my daughter.”

“Don’t thank me. Thank my therapist. I didn’t always feel this way. It took a lot of reflection and praying. I’m excited to meet her.”

“I appreciate your honesty, and I’d like to think that if the situation were reversed, I’d handle it as well as you.”

“You wouldn’t, and luckily, you won’t have to. If I have any kids, they’ll be yours.”

“If?” I questioned because I was confused.

“That’s what I said.”

“Did you mean to say when?”

“If and when don’t sound alike at all. I know what I said, and I meant it.”

“You don’t know if you want kids?”

“I do want kids, but things didn’t work between us the first time, so who knows what will happen this time. I’m not?—”

I put my hand over the front of her neck and covered her mouth with mine. Our kiss was deep and filled with passion and intensity. When I pulled away, she was out of breath as her eyes searched mine for answers, and I was more than happy to give them to her.

“Lovie, we didn’t work because I fucked up, and I promise you, I won’t fuck up again. When you walked in that door, and I saw you in the flesh, I felt whole again, baby. I need you to have faith in me and in the younger version of us who dreamed of a future together. Can you do that for me?”

A tear fell from one of her eyes, and she quickly wiped it away. I felt her hesitance in my spirit, and since the moment she’d arrived, she’d been battling her feelings. Her heart was all in, but her mind told her to be cautious.

I understood, but it hadn’t even been twelve hours, and she’d gone back and forth too many times for me. I wasn’t going anywhere, so she may as well get on board and make this a smooth transition.

“I can do that,” she finally said.

My hand was still on her neck, and I kissed her again before releasing her. I stepped away to get the Oreo cookie cheesecake bites from the refrigerator, then returned to my spot between her legs.

I couldn’t indulge in the dessert the way I wanted, so I bit into one of them, eating half of it, then fed Dynastie the other half. Oreos were her favorite, and based on her expression, she enjoyed the sweet treat.

“Damn, that’s good,” she expressed with her mouth half full.

“I know. If I wasn’t training, I’d eat all these lil muthafuckas.”

“Well, I’m not training, so give me three.”

I chuckled and just gave her the whole container. She put them between us and removed the lid.

“Since we’re talking about Maja, she’s with her mom for the next few days.”

“Do you and her mother co-parent well?”

“The first year was rough, but we got it together, and it’s been cool since.”

“That’s good to know. Do you plan to introduce me to her before I meet Maja?”

“Why?”

“Because she’s her mother and probably wants to know who her daughter is around. Don’t you?”

“She knows not to have random ass niggas around my seed. You ain’t random, so this ain’t the same.”
