She didn’t look satisfied with my response, but she didn’t ask any more questions. After letting the chef inside, I returned to the living room to find that Dynastie had gotten her luggage from near the door and was waiting at the bottom of the stairs.

“Can you hurry up so I can clean this mess up between my legs?”

I raised my brow, giving her a knowing look.

“I can take care of that if you want.”

“You’re the person who got me in this situation in the first place. I can’t believe I let you get that close to me so soon. I should’ve made you suffer much longer.”

“We’ve both suffered enough, so that would be silly considering how we feel about each other. Plus, you gon’ let me do a lot more tonight,” I said with a wink before grabbing the two largest suitcases and heading up the stairs.

She knew I’d get the rest of her belongings, so she left them at the bottom of the stairs. I had plenty of faults, but if nothing else, I treated the women in my life like queens and gave them the utmost respect.

I entered my bedroom and went to the spacious walk-in closet. It was very presumptuous of me to assume Dynastie would be okay with staying in my room, but unless she told me different, this was where she’d be.

“Is this the guest room?” she asked.

I exited the closet and watched as she looked in the bathroom, opened and closed a few drawers, then finally walked past me to look in the closet.

“You can call it whatever you want, but this is where you’re staying.”

“This definitely looks like your room, but your closet is only half full.”

“This isourroom, and the other half of the closet is for you.”

She smacked her lips before saying, “Boy, you play too much. Why would you make room for my stuff in your closet, and what makes you think I want to sleep in here with you? There’s no telling how many women you’ve had in that bed.”

“I’m too grown to play with you, Lovie. My intention has always been to fix things with us, so the other side of that closet and half of the drawers have never been used. As far as other women being in my bed, they’d have to get into my house first, and I don’t bring random women to the place where my daughter lays her head.”

“What about her mother?”

“Her mother ain’t random, but she’s never seen my bedroom.”

“Why should I believe you?”

“Why would I lie?” She shrugged but didn’t verbally respond. “Listen, if you want to sleep in the guest room, that’s cool, as long as you know I’ll be in there with you.”

“Major!”

“I’m serious as fuck. I’m not sure why you think we’re about to be in the same house after all this time but not be in the same bed. If you still need to clean yourself up, everything you need is in the bathroom. Lunch will be ready in an hour. I’m going to my office to make a few phone calls. I won’t be long, and if you’re ready before the food is, I’ll give you a tour. If not, we can do it after we eat.”

She didn’t respond, so I left her to do what she needed to do. When I got to my office on the first floor, I sat behind my desk and picked up my business cell phone. I had several missed calls, so I selected the contact for the person who’d called me first, which was my accountant.

“Wassup, Kris?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to let you know the money you requested I deposit from your business account into Ms. Love’s business account has been transferred. I emailed you a copy of the transaction for your records.”

“Thanks, man. I appreciate you taking care of that right away.”

“It wasn’t a problem. Let me know if there’s anything else you need me to do before our next monthly meeting.”

“Will do. Thanks again.”

The next person I called was my trainer. Fox and I were cool as hell, but during training, he kept our relationship strictly business. Although I thought of him as an uncle, and he thought of me as a nephew, he played no games when it came to ensuring I was prepared to get in the ring.

He had my personal number, but when I was training, he rarely used it. He was very careful not to blur the linesbecause he said I wasn’t paying him to be my friend. When I wasn’t training, our relationship was a lot more relaxed, and I appreciated how he turned his professionalism on and off as needed.

He didn’t want shit but to make sure I was ready to go at six o’clock tomorrow morning, and by ready to go, he meant having already run five miles. After assuring him that I would be, I ended the call and moved on to the next person. Thirty minutes later, I’d returned all the business-related calls and left my office.
