Mayhap she would just go back to Honey’s cabin and tidy things up a bit there. He wouldn’t mind that, she thought.
Standing in thedoorway to Honey’s room, her hands on her hips, Seonag surveyed the area. The stack of papers she’d read from the other day beckoned her to study them more in-depth. She was tempted.
She knew there was the letter regarding Storm, and it piqued her interest, but she also felt like she was prying by reading further without Honey’s permission. Mayhap she could find something else of interest to read in the pile of papers on his desk?
Thumbing through the stack, the letter about Storm caught her interest, but Seonag didn’t stop. She’d found out all the information she needed reading the parts aloud to Honey when he’d asked. “What am I doing?” Seonag whispered to the empty room. She stepped away from the desk, leaving the papers as she’d found them and surveyed the space that fit Honey perfectly.
Her pallet looked out of place when compared to the solid wood furnishings filling the area. The huge bed took up most of the space and it was piled high with throws. Seonag’s skin heated at the memory of seeing Honey’s bare buttocks as he undressed.
“Sean?”
Seonag jumped at Mac’s booming voice filling the room, a high-pitched squeal escaping her lips. Hands on her chest, she tried to slow her breathing as Mac looked at her with his brow raised in a silent question.
“Mac. I didna hear ye approach.”
“Ye seemed to be lost in thought and didna hear my knock.”
Seonag nodded. “I apologize. Do ye need something?” she asked.
With a sheepish grin, he held out not one, but several tunics. “I know ye offered to mend one, but do ye think ye can stitch these up as well?”
She took the pile from him and studied the items. Most were basic tears. Repairs that wouldn’t take much skill, but would keep her busy until it was time to go back to the galley.
“Of course. I’ll have these back to ye soon.”
“Thank ye, lad.”
After Mac left her alone to get started on his repairs, Seonag went on the hunt for needle and thread. There were none in the desk drawers. A chest that almost reached the ceiling in height beckoned her from the far corner. She tested the knob and to her surprise, it turned and the door swung open.
She paused, her senses assaulted by the masculine scent that was all Honey. The chest smelled like the pine woods of the forest and the briny salt of the sea. A beautiful blend of two usually separate areas, combining Honey’s two worlds.
Inhaling deeply, Seonag scanned the items in the chest, trying to ignore Honey’s personal items that she didn’t have any right to be rifling through. In the back corner, a small wooden box caught her attention.
She glanced over her shoulder back to the door. There was no sign of Honey or any of his crewmen in the hallway outside the quarters. Though her intentions were innocent, a sense of guilt filled her and her heart beat faster in her chest.
Fighting the pull to open the small box and study the contents inside, she scanned the rest of the shelves, but didn’t find any thread.
Closing the doors, she blew out a breath. Where else would Honey keep needle and thread? She could go back to the galley and use the needle and thread she sewed Duncan’s finger with earlier, but there wasn’t much thread left. The needle, even if it was bulkier than what she needed, would still serve the purpose.
She made her way to the upper deck, thankful she didn’t cross paths with Sweeney. Unease swept over her every time she was in the man’s presence.
Snagging the needle, now clean of blood from Duncan’s wound, Seonag also grabbed what was left of the thread.
“Where are ye off to?” Honey’s deep voice startled her as she descended the steps to take her below deck.
The man was unbelievably quiet for his size. She paused and turned. He was standing at the top of the stairs.
“Um, I was, well, since I canna offer much help in the running of the ship,” Seonag could feel her cheeks heating under his intense gaze. “I thought I could help by mending some of the men’s clothes. I’ve got Mac’s to do now, but I’m sure there are others that could use some stitches.” She paused, waiting for his response.
Honey shook his head, a small smile brightening his face. “Ye have an odd set of skills for a lad, Sean. I’m sure the men will be thankful to no’ have holey clothing.”
She paused. “Do ye have any more thread? I just have this wee bit that’s left over from earlier.” She held up the small amount in the palm of her hand to show him how much she had available.
“Aye, follow me.” Honey descended the stairs and walked towards his quarters, the scent of the sea rolling off his skin and infiltrating her senses. She couldn’t help herself, she closed her eyes and breathed in with a sigh.
“Ye coming?”
“Oh, aye, sorry.” Seonag needed to clear her head before he thought her even odder than he already did.
