“Glad to see you two have finally warmed up to one another.” The commander stood, her smirk evident as she looked between us. Scowling, I took a step away from Azazel. “Oh, and Nova? Welcome to the rebellion.”

With that, she began heading to the door, nodding at us as we passed. Now angered by her condescending tone and Azazel’s childish antics, I pivoted, catching the door before it closed behind her.

“Commander?” She turned, smiling contently over her shoulder at me. I grinned, hoping I ruined her entire day. “Do consider Azazel’s plan. The stars love it. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s the most excited they’ve been in weeks. Wouldn’t want to upset them now, would we?”

Her face was priceless, the slack jaw and narrowed eyes worthy of a frame. Rather than responding, she only turned and continued down the hall, her boots loud as they smacked against the hardwood floor.

When I turned back around, Altair was already behind me, leaning against the wall with an unfettered smile. “So, the stars like my plan?”

“Of course not. I just wanted her to squirm a little.”

“I’m sure that it had nothing to do with you wanting me to feel validated and heard,” he hummed.

Scoffing, I rolled my eyes. “Why would I want that? I don’t care what comes out of your mouth.”

Slowly, he brought his chocolate covered finger to his face, licking it with his tongue before pushing it into his mouth until his lips hit his ring. I watched, trying not to hyperventilate, as he pulled it out with a pop.

Fuck. I want him. I want him so badly.

“Are you done being weird?” I asked, clearing my throat.

He smiled, hand gripping the door above my head. “Are you done being stubborn?”

“No.”

Azazel leaned down, his lips so close I could taste the chocolate on his breath. “Me either.”

Then he stood straight and walked out. I gasped, forced to jog to catch him. “You’re such a baby! You know, most men would love the offer I gave you!”

“As you can see, I’m not most men. Most men can’t even dress themselves properly.”

“You’re so superficial. That doesn’t matter!”

“It does to me. And to you, if those wandering eyes are any indication. You know, Little Void, all you need to do is just talk about your feelings. Acknowledge them. Be honest with me—with yourself. Then,” he cut himself off, turning and forcing meinto the wall with the sheer size of his body. I gasped, feeling my heart race as he bent his neck. His lips grazed my cheek, sliding up to my temple. I startled as his hand tangled into my hair at the nap of my neck, the other pressing into the wall near my face. “I’ll make sure you’re satisfied every day for the rest of our lives. I’ll take such good care of this perfect body that no other man will ever cross your mind again. And if, for some reason, they do, I’ll kill them all and then fuck you hard enough you forget they ever existed.”

“Stars above,” I gasped out.

He only backed away, offering a lopsided smile, his dimple saying hello. “I love it when you’re flustered.”

“Az? Nova?” came a voice, laughter lacing their tone.

“Just one second, Desi.” Az smiled wider, pulling my face to his and offering me a quick kiss. Instincts kicked in, my tongue sliding against his bottom lip. Laughter vibrated against my mouth as he leaned back. “Have anything you care to talk about, Nova?”

“No,” I growled, glaring up at him.

“You will soon enough.” He stepped away from me, turning half a circle to face the woman who leaned against the wall opposite us, her smile pinched and body shaking as she seemingly held back laughter.

Great.

“Let me guess, you offered to escort us to our supplies?” he asked her, walking her way and grabbing the papers she held. I couldn’t help it, I scowled at the pair. Why did he insist on teasing me only to flirt with another woman right in front of me? And why did it bother me so damn much?

“Of course I did. Are you going to invite me over to the cottage, or do the two of you have…plans?”She smiled openly now, pointing her finger between the two of us.

“Let me see.” Az turned towards me, flashing me a lopsided grin. “Nova, is there anything you want to tell me?”

I’m going to kill this snake.

“Nope. Nothing.”
