“But I didn’t finish breakfast,” he complains and quicker than I can process he’s back between my legs. He’s not teasing this time; he eats me out like a starved man. Deep laps of his tongue alternating with hard sucks on my clit have me coming in less than a minute. He’s rushed and flustered when he sits up and fumbles with the condom before he’s properly suited up. Just when I expect him to sink deep, he grabs my hips again and in an impressive show of strength, flips me to my stomach and hauls my butt up so I’m on my knees with my cheek against my pillow. Then, without further warning, he slams into me and curves himself over my back so his lips are by my ear. “You are perfect to me, Nel Forrest.”

CHAPTER NINETEEN

“What the hell gave me away?”

JAKE

Ireally need to stop touching Nel. We decided to walk to Harry’s so I didn’t have to leave the car there overnight, and it was just too natural to slip my fingers in between hers as we walked. That quickly escalated to my arm around her waist, then my hand slid to rest on her butt, feeling the movement of each step and resisting the urge to drag her back to the hotel to go for round three. But we’re spending the day with Harry and his family and Nel wants to keep things low key, which I’m happy to do for her.

I’d love to say she has nothing to worry about and that Harry will be fine, but he is a little weird about stuff sometimes. At least he is at first. Once he’s had a moment to digest things, he often realises things are better than he thought. Like when Lisa told him he was going to be a dad for the third time and he had a mini meltdown because it was unplanned. Once his brain had a chance to evolve from its impulsive response, he realised that he loves being a father, he and Lisa are as strong as a couple can be and they’re financially comfortable, he recognised it as being wonderful news.

We walk straight into the house which has been unlocked for us already. We kick off our shoes and when Nel steadies herself on the door frame while removing her boots, I can’t help but steal a quick kiss as no one is in the hall to see us.

“Jake,” she hisses, quickly checking for witnesses.

“Sorry, little elf. Got to follow the rules.” I point up to the mistletoe above her head and make my way up the hall. “Merry Christmas!” I call to find where everyone is and when it’s repeated back to me in a cheerful chorus, I gesture for Nel to walk ahead of me into the kitchen where they seem to be. I stuff my hands in my pockets because it’s all too easy to put one at the small of her back to guide her through the door, and I’m starting to think that today is going to be harder than anticipated.

“Uncle Jake!” Lucas runs over to me and bands his arms around my waist.

“Hey bud, you had a good morning?”

“Yeah! Wanna see what I got from Santa?”

“Not now, Lucas. It’s breakfast time.” Lisa comes from the garage carrying a huge platter of croissants and ushers him off before planting a quick kiss on my cheek. “Merry Christmas, Jake.”

“Merry Christmas, Lis. Can I help with anything?”

“No, we’re all good. Take a seat.” She kisses Nel’s cheek, too, and gives her a beautiful smile. At the table, Nel and I are greeted with well wishes and bright smiles. The twins are excitedly babbling, each sat with a grandparent while Oscar stands between Charles and Cami with his arms around their shoulders as they sit at the table.

“Hi Aunty Nels-Bels. Hi Uncle Jake,” he waves animatedly at us.

“Hi Ozzy, Merry Christmas,” Nel smiles sweetly at him.

“Hey, I hear you met Santa last night,” I say to my youngest Godson.

He gives me an amused glare. “I know it was you, Uncle Jake.”

“What was me?” I screw my face up in confusion.

“You were the Santa at the fair last night.”

“What!?”

“Auntie Nel was the elf!” he accuses with the conviction of a courtroom drama.

As though practiced, Nel and I look at each other in perfect unison with mirroring facial expression of exaggerated horror.

“You were the elf?” I sneer.

“You wereSanta?” she sobs.

“I know you’re pretending,” Oscar giggles.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Harry comes in from the garage with two pitchers of orange juice that he places on the table before giving me a back-slapping hug. “Merry Christmas, brother.”

“Merry Christmas, mate. You good?” I ask him quietly as the smile on his face looks a little strained.

“Of course,” he says brightly. He hugs Nel and kisses her cheek before herding his children to their seats.
