I’d booked a private dining experience. It had cost a whack, but the look on Dynamo’s face as she gazed at Camden glittering below was worth it.

“There are two people here. A husband and wife. She’s here to serve, and he’s here to watch over her,” I explained, and Dynamo nodded.

“That’s so like you. Not wanting to make anyone uncomfortable. Thanks, Mike,” she said as I pulled a chair out.

“You look beautiful tonight,” I stated as I tucked her in. Dynamo didn’t flinch, and I made sure she was facing the way the servers would come. I didn’t want her freaking out.

“Do you wish I were more girly?” Dynamo asked.

I studied her. Dynamo wore a black tank top which showed the swells of her creamy breasts. As usual, she wore her cut, smart black jeans, and some cute shoes. The tank held a sequined American flag. Her hair was long and fell in a sleek wave.

“Nope, you’re perfect. Why would I want you any different?”

Sadness crossed her eyes, and I reached across the table and opened my hand. Dynamo hesitated before taking it.

“I’ve changed…”

“Bet you were a real ballbuster. Don’t think I would have liked you back then,” I teased, and her mouth opened in an O.

“Wow,” she gasped and began laughing. “That was straight from the hip.”

“True, though.”

We were interrupted as the server approached.

“Melon salad with croutons and raspberries,” she said and placed the plates down.

“I love melon!” Dynamo exclaimed.

“Dare told me.”

We ate, making small talk. The way Dynamo’s mind worked intrigued me. The main course was roasted vegetables and lamb, another of her favourites. And sticky toffee pudding followed it with whipped cream. The meal was amazing and the evening perfect, which was why I was more than disgruntled when my phone rang.

“Mike, get home now. We have a viable threat. A team is extraditing the girls,” Jude ordered.

I didn’t hesitate, but shot up. The sudden movement made Dynamo flinch. “On the way.” I ground on. Dynamo’s eyes widened in fear, and I crouched down, making myself smaller.

“Honey, stay with me. There’s been a threat against my family. We have to head home. Can you hold shit together?”

“Yes,” she gritted out. Chin lifting, Dynamo rose to her feet and took my hand. “Let’s go.”

I quickly paid the couple and handed them a hefty tip. Apologetically, I explained there’d been an accident, and we left.

“Mike, what does a viable threat mean?”

“Chatter has been intercepted, which puts my family at risk. Jude is moving to secure them.”

“What happens then?”

“We track it. This is about the trafficking ring we busted.”

“Mike, why you?” Dynamo asked, confused.

“Because I’m the only one with children. Whoeverthis is, is sending a warning,” I ground out.

“You’ll stop them, won’t you?” Dynamo whispered.

“Yes.” My girl was worried about my babies. That sank deep. Despite her protestations, Dynamo was all in.
