I take a few deep breaths before one word finally leaves my mouth. “Dad...”

“Son? Is she dead?”

“Dad, no, I...” I shake my head, my hand running through my hair and leaving blood on every strand.

“What are you saying? Hello?”

Heavy cries rattle me as I sit on my knees beside my dead brother, his blood staining not only my hands, but the place where I live. The place that is supposed to be my calm. I think I’m the only one in the business who has never killed anyone before, and I never thought the first one would be my twin brother.

“I killed him, dad.”

“Who did you kill?”

“Matheo.” His name comes with a heavy sob. I grab at my hair as I admit the fact that I have killed my own brother.

“What?!”

“I’m sorry, I...” I can’t get the proper words out.

“People were already after him, it was only a matter of time, stop crying. Where are you? Where’s the body?”

“Outside my house,” I try to stop crying as I look at his lifeless body.

“Go inside and I’ll send people to clean up all the tracks.”

“Okay,” I say, not arguing with him this time, not putting on any false facade.

“And Brian, he was already dead anyway. He has always been.”

My father’s words sink in and I force myself to get up from the ground and step inside, not able to glance back at him.

I place my helmet on the floor along with my shoes, before washing my hands in the kitchen, desperate to get his blood off my hands. The blood we share.I scrub my shaky hands until my skin burns, my jaw tight as I see the red water in the sink.

Then, I hearit. Quiet sobs come from the bathroom and instantly I make my way there, only to find Anastasia lying on the cold floor, her face covered in tears. The helmet lies close to her ear, her hands holding a steady grip around it.

“I heard everything,” she whispers, her body brutally shaking. “Everything!” She screams in my face.

“Good.” I say, then I turn my back to her and walk towards my bedroom. How can I handle her, screaming at me, when I can barely handle myself?

“You killed him!”The sound of her scream moves through the house, bouncing against every wall like an axe. But mostly, it moves through me. I know exactly what I have just done, and her words only make my heart sink deeper.

I sit down on the edge of the bed and the mattress sinks beneath me. I hold my head between my hands as my thoughts start spiraling, not giving me a quiet second.

There was no soul who left his body, because my father was right, he had never been alive to begin with. He had always been evil, possessed almost, and someone was going to take his life sooner or later anyway.

I can’t stand hearing her cries from the other room. No matter how badly I want to shut the sound out, it’s impossible. She’s getting louder, and between her sobs, come these deep screams she can’t hold back. And those screams break me more than any death ever could.

I walk back to her, watching her on the floor. “Stop staring at me!” I don’t.

“Go away!” I stand still.

She stands up, her eyes furious as she slams her fists into my chest, again and again. She simply doesn’t stop. I let her, I let her take it out on me. I let her because no one else will, no one else has for a long time.

“Anastasia,” I say her name softly, my voice tired.

“I hate you! I hate you, I hate him! I fucking hate all of you!”

I grab her wrists, trying to calm her. “Stop it,” I say, my voice evensofter than before.
