A soft moan left the back of my throat as he took his lips away from mine.

“Scarlett Carson, all that bad girl you hide under that good girl smile drives me fucking wild.” He panted, the want in his voice empowering me. “From the first moment I saw you under the stars that night at Booker’s, I knew it was going to be impossible to get you out of my head.”

My back arched away from the door, deleting the empty space between our two greedy bodies.

“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t just as hard to keep you out of mine,” I confessed, nibbling on my bottom lip. At this point, I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. “You’re cocky andarrogant in the most maddening and desirable way, but you’re also extremely charismatic and selfishly thoughtful, making it nearly impossible not to be thinking about you every second of the day.” The words were flowing from my mouth like a freshly tapped keg.

“Your honesty is sexy as hell,” he said, one hand bracing his weight on the door, the other tracing the skin on my chest. “I need someone who can shoot it straight with me, and that’s exactly what you’ve done from our very first conversation.” His fingers lingered, pushing the strap of my white crop top out of the way before placing a feather-like kiss on my collarbone.

“Hell, I better not stop now then,” I said, drawing in a deep breath.

He peered up at me, the moonlight from the massive windows above the front door reflecting in his baby blues. I slinked out of my jacket, the metal buttons clashing onto the floor, signaling to both of us that this was actually happening.

Finally. Fuck.

“As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve wanted nothing more than for you to touch me just like you are now,” I said, finding his hand and dragging it down my stomach, urging him to pull my crop top over my head. He quickly obliged.

I slowly unbuttoned my jeans and shimmied them to the ground before stepping out of them. “For you to fulfill the desire that has taken up space everywhere, every second I’m around you, making it almost impossible to think about anything other than what it would feel like to have you inside of me,” I said, now standing in nothing more than my matching nude lace bra, panties, and my old worn-out cowboy boots.

The chill in the air awoke my nipples, sending a shiver down my spine.

He stepped back, but just barely. “You’re going to make me lose my mind, aren’t you?” he asked, his eyes drinking up every inch of me like he’d been deprived for years.

“That’s the plan.”

I tiptoed to him, needing his warmth and desperate to know what it felt like to have my naked body against his.

He scooped me up, similar to way he had outside, and carried me into what I assumed was the dining room.

“This is your thing, isn’t it? You like to carry girls around and make them feel like they’re safe with you. Get them all nice and worked up so you can have your way with them.”

“Not girls. Just you,” he insisted. “Because I need you to know that you are safe with me,” he said, plopping me down, the cold tabletop on my butt cheeks shocking the breath straight out of my lungs. He placed his hands firmly on either side of my thighs. “I need you to know that no one has or ever will touch you in the way your body deserves to be touched. No one but me can give you what you need.”

“Prove it.” I grabbed his hand, encouraging his fingers to flirt with the dainty lace that decorated my lower half. “I’m damn near begging you to take me right here on the dining room table. Hasn’t anyone ever told you that actions speak louder than words?”

Our gazes met, and I saw the moment he understood my words to be the consent he’d been pining for.

Together we fought to get his shirt off while he kicked off his boots, stealing a kiss every chance we had. Then, using my palm, I pushed him into the moonlight, making sure I got a mental picture of this—of him standing half-naked in front of me. He was strong, built thick, tiny brown curls decorating his chest, his muscles tightening on full display with every movement his body made.

There, in nothing but a pair of Levi’s and a slutty gold chain that sparkled underneath the stars, stood the delicious man I was going to fuck tonight.

Just as quickly as I’d pushed him away, I pulled him back to me by his gold chain, fitting him into the space between my legs. He started unbuttoning his pants, the anticipation filling me up like a glass of ice-cold water.

“Do I need to grab a condom?” he asked, his breath heavy in between kisses. “I get tested regularly, but I will do whatever you’re comfortable with.”

“No,” I breathed out impatiently. “I’m on the pill and haven’t had a reason to get tested since Zane, so we’re good.” The words couldn’t leave my mouth fast enough.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” He bent down, wearing only a pair of camo boxer briefs, the form-fitting material stretched to its capacity as he sunk to his knees, his hands resting on top of my thighs. “I need to be as close to you as possible.”

The sight of him like this was enough to have my head buzzing.

His tongue darted out from inside his mouth, slowly dragging across his bottom lip before he leaned down to tattoo my thigh with his kisses. The little bit of saliva left from each kiss ignited tiny fires across my skin as the cold air blew across them.

Gently, he pulled my boots from my feet, tossing them on the hardwood floor behind him. “We might need to get you some new boots.”

“Not until I can get the ones I want,” I said, letting out a giggle with the little breath I had. “I never give in until I can get exactly what I want.”

He peered up from behind those thick brown eyelashes, the shift in his expression going from docile and tender to hot-blooded and hungry.
