Everywhere I’m touching him is hard and hot. I know I should be careful—he’s still recovering—but I’m sick and tired of following the rules. And so very done with trying to be perfect and uncomplicated.
The things I feel for Emmett have been complicated since the moment we met, and maybe I still don’t fully understand them. But I’m done thinking. Done over-analyzing. Done avoiding.
I want him.
More terrifyingly . . . I think I need him a little too.
And after days of avoiding him, pretending this pull between us could be ignored, there’s no way in hell I’m letting this moment slip away.
“Say it again,” he demands, his grip on my waist tightening. He holds me as if nothing scares him more than the chance that I might slip away.
Closing the gap between us, I let my lips brush his ear and whisper, “Kiss. Me. Please.” Enunciating each word and leaving no room for confusion, even tacking the pleasantry on to the end just to toy with him.
His eyes flare.
“So damn polite.” His thighs flex below me, and they aren’t the only thing hard beneath me.
And big.
I had a hunch—he carries himself with such quiet confidence.
He takes my chin in his hand, and my hips shift, making his nostrils flare. His lips curl into a grin. It’s devious, really, the way he seems to enjoy taunting me. Holding what I want just out of reach.
“Please, Emmett.”
“Give me a second. I’m busy.”
“Busy.” I snort out. “Doing what?”
“Memorizing how this feels.” His knuckles trace my jaw, blue eyes tracing every part of my face as the hand that was just gripping me so gently, cups the base of my skull possessively. “This moment is going to stay with me during the darkest nights, and I won’t rush it.”
I’m absolutely buzzing. If I thought there was tension before, it’s nothing compared to the feeling of his undivided attention while he decides what to do with me. We’re suspended on the edge of something dangerous, both of us fully aware there’s no coming back from this.
His tongue sweeps over his lips as he sucks in one last breath. Then his mouth is on mine.
I should listen to the warning bells screaming in the back of my mind, but I don’t. I melt into the kiss instead, parting my lips for the slow sweep of his tongue and letting him drag me under.
We’re flush everywhere, kissing like we’ve been starving for it. Logic dissolves under the heat of him. I nip at his bottom lip, desperate for more, and his answering groan shoots straight through me.
My fingers sink into Emmett’s wavy strands as I cling to every part of him within reach. When I grind down against him,a rough whimper vibrates from his chest, and I swear the sound alone could ruin me.
He tears his mouth from mine.
“No.” I shake my head pulling him back to me. My lips move against his. “Not done. Not yet.” When I press my mouth to his, he comes willingly.
“Fuck,” he mumbles, a rough hand sliding under my top and moving higher until it’s sliding under the tight fabric of my sports bra. Fingers splayed, he covers my back, swiveling his hips and helping me chase what I’m after.
“Is this what you want?” he asks between open-mouth kisses, each one hotter and wetter than the last.
“God, yes,” I cry.
“You want everything I have to give you, Angel?”
“All of it.” My breaths come faster.
He pulls back enough that I can see the stern set of his jaw, the dark heat pooling with the most perfect shade of blue.
“Take it. Clip those wings and fall with me.”
