“Well,” she sighed. “I need to tell you something. A few things, actually.”
I stopped tugging on my fake lashes. “What’s up?”
“The Posh shoot got canceled.”
I froze. “What? Why?”
That photoshoot had been on the books for months. The editors at Posh Magazine had even reached out to my label twice to confirm we were still set.
“Well...” She worried her bottom lip between her teeth. “It’s a mess over there.”
My brows snapped together. This was the first I was hearing about something going on over at Posh Magazine. “I don’t understand.”
Her shoulders dropped. “There’s a big editorial shakeup happening over there. Something about the creative director quitting and taking half his team with him. It’s a clusterfuck,” her eyes snapped to mine in the mirror like she couldn’t believe she just dropped the F-bomb.
I burst out laughing. “Don’t censor your words for me, boo. That’s my favorite word. You won’t offend me.”
Shaking her head at me, she flipped her iPad around so I could see what was on the screen.
It was the group chat between the heads of my label, my manager, my stylist, and everyone else needed to make the interview and photoshoot happen.
I leaned forward, squinting my eyes. “It looks like they’re scrambling.”
She nodded. “They totally are, and honestly, it’s their mess to clean up.”
I couldn’t help it. My assistant was as sweet as pie. So, for her to basically say, ‘Fuck it, let them figure it out,’ had me throwing my head back and laughing out loud.
Sobering, I agreed wholeheartedly. “Truer words, babe. Tru-er words.”
See. She was totally adorable.
“So, why were you stressing a minute ago?” I mean, it wasn’t her fault. She couldn’t control a multi-billion-dollar company from falling apart.
She shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess I thought you’d be more upset.”
Upset?
Not a chance.
I was jumping all over getting an extra day off. Don’t get me wrong, touring around the globe and singing for thousands of people was literally my dream come true, but it could be brutal sometimes, too.
“I’m not upset at all,” I finally said. And then it hit me. “So if the shoot is canceled, that means...”
She nodded, a smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. “Yeppers.”
“I get—” I squinted, doing the math in my head. Seven. Eight.
“Ten days off instead of just the weekend,” she answered for me.
I threw my hands up in the air and shimmy-shook my ass all over my chair. “Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!”
Ten whole days of no obligations and no schedule was exactly what I needed.
“You know what?” I stood up, energy surging back through my system. “I’m going to surprise Shawn. We’ll fly to Nashville tonight instead of tomorrow.”
The thought of my fiancé’s face when I showed up unannounced sent a little flutter through my chest. It had been three weeks since I’d seen him—he’d been in training camp, and I’d been on tour. We were always missing each other, like two ships passing in the night.
Though honestly, when we were together, it felt a bit like that anyway.
