I can't let her get ahead of me, and I can’t let her think that I’m not going to read it.
As soon as I get back to the office, I’m officially cracking that thing open.
Should I go over there and say hi? We never really established rules for random run-ins like this, but she is with my sister after all, so it makes sense.
“Dutton.”
A hand waves in front of my face.
I blink and glance over to see Gavin standing by me.
“What are you doing?” I ask.
“Is this the Richford kids’ workout hour?” Preston asks, and Gavin punches his shoulder and grins.
“Looks like it,” he says and then tosses me a towel. “Dad’s looking for you.”
“Of course he is.”
“He seemed pissed.”
“He always is.”
Gavin holds his hand up in surrender.
“I’m just passing the message on before you get back to the office and he comes storming in.”
“Did he mention what it’s about?”
“Nope.”
Laughter steals my attention, and once again I find myself watching my new friend.
I’m not even back at the office, but I have a feeling I know what my father wants to talk about.
Unfortunately for him, the subject of Brooke is not up for discussion. Not with him.

BROOKE
Wednesdays aremy favorite because they are my day off and I get to sleep in. Now, I know that seven isn’t considered sleeping in to most, but to me, it’s absolutely glorious.
Today was even better because when I woke up, there was a picture of the bakery from Daisy in my text message inbox. Every seat was taken, and there was a line at the register. My first instinct was to jump out of bed and rush to help her, but her text said she was fine. She was convinced people were there to be nosy, hoping I'd stop in and give them more inside scoop about what’s going on with Dutton and me.
I can’t help but laugh.
Who would have thought that forming a friendship with Dutton Richford would cause the bakery to pick up business?
Definitely not me.
But it sure makes my day more enjoyable knowing things are good.
What’s not good?
The fact that I need to finish disputing credit card charges and getting all the paperwork in line to clear my credit. The great news is, I do not have to pay back any debt accrued by identity theft as long as I report and dispute it. The bad news is, my mother created one hell of a list for me to dispute.
