“That’s really sweet, but I can’t.”

She holds her hand up for Grey to high-five.

“But I’ll be back tomorrow, and when we get to football camp, you can show them all how good your arm got in just one day. If you want to be a quarterback, I think you can do it.”

“Quarterback?” I ask. “I didn’t know you picked a position.”

Grey nods proudly as Greer heads for the front door.

“Dish up. I’ll be right back,” I say to Grey and then follow her.

“Greer, wait up,” I call out.

She doesn’t stop until she’s at the door.

She grabs her purse, lifting it over her shoulder to cross over her body. Instantly, my eyes fall to where it dips between her breasts, making them stand out.

I pull myself together before she can notice, then grab onto the doorframe, both hands resting above us as I ask, “Are you sure you can’t stay?”

The smile she gives me is small and sweet.

“Not tonight.”

“Do you have other plans?” I have no idea why I pushed back. If she has other plans, that’s fine.

It’s because she told Grey she couldn’t stay. That’s it. I hate when my kid doesn’t get what he wants.

“Goodnight, Simon,” she says and walks out the door.

When she’s off the front porch, she looks over her shoulder. Her eyes lock on mine as she bites her bottom lip.

Oh, hell.

She turns back to cross the grass.

“Greer.” I open the door.

I wait for her to look back. “I decided to add a love triangle to my book today. It’s new for me.”

She crosses her arms and nods with a grin.

“If anyone can do it, it’s Simon Stone.”

With that, she jogs the rest of the way to her house and disappears inside.

I’m still standing on my porch, looking at her house, when Grey calls my name from the kitchen.

Does Greer read my books?

If she does, does she like them?

Does she think I’m a good writer?

I head back into the house and join Grey at the table.

“Why are you smiling like that?” he asks.

I can’t help it—I laugh at his question.
